Elliott Continues to Shine for Blues

The St. Louis Blues leaned on the sensational goaltending of Brian Elliott to take a 1-0 series lead over the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference final and will look to head out to California with a commanding 2-0 lead with a win in Game 2 Tuesday.

  • The Blues are 6-0 SU in their last six games on Tuesday.
  • The Sharks are 9-2 SU in their last 11 games as road underdogs.
  • The Sharks are 13-5 SU in their last 18 games after back-to-back losses on the road.

Online shop Sportsbook is currently offering the Blues at -130 in moneyline markets while the Sharks are +110. In puckline betting, the Blues are -1.5 (+230) while the Sharks are -270. As far as the total is concerned, both sides of the 5-goal total are -110.

Elliott stopped 31 of San Jose’s 32 shots in the series opener, continuing his strong performance between the pipes for the Blues during their current Stanley Cup run. Furthermore, the 31-year-old has been dominant versus the Sharks in five career playoff appearances as he improved to 4-0 with a 1.29 goals-against average and .954 save percentage with Sunday’s performance.

This is the first time this postseason that the Sharks lost a Game 1, so it will be interesting to see how the team responds. Speaking of responses, head coach Peter DeBoer certainly had some words about a lack of calls in Sunday’s contest as he was frustrated with just three power play chances.

"St. Louis is one of the most-penalized teams in the league, regular season and playoffs," DeBoer said. "They need to call the game accordingly. Need to make them pay a price for being the most-penalized team in the power play, which we didn't last night."
