The Golden Knight performs prior to Game Three of the Western Conference First Round between the San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights during the 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at T-Mobile Arena on April 14, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Golden Knights Aiming to Dispatch Sharks from Playoffs for Second Year in a Row

After staving off elimination in Game 5, San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl guaranteed his team would push the first-round series with the Vegas Golden Knights to seven games. Hertl and the Sharks will look to fulfill that promise when Game 6 gets underway in Sin City tonight. Sportsbooks opened the Golden Knights as -170 home favorites with a total of 6.

Standout Stats

  • The Golden Knights wrapped up three playoff series on the road last year on their way to the Western Conference final but now have an opportunity to accomplish the feat in front of their hometown fans. The Knights outscored the Sharks 11-3 in Games 3 and 4 at T-Mobile Arena.
  • Sharks goaltender Martin Jones, who was pulled in the first period of Games 2 and 4, came up big on Thursday by turning aside 30 of 32 shots. San Jose head coach Peter DeBoer has announced he has no plans to change things up, so expect to see Jones in net tonight.
  • Vegas’ No. 2 line of Max Pacioretty, Paul Stastny and Mark Stone was dynamite through the first four games, combining for 28 points on 12 goals and 16 assists before being held off the scoresheet in Game 5.
  • The Knights could badly use a strong start from goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, as the netminder registered a shutout in Game 4 but has allowed at least three goals in the other four games.
  • Is another OVER in store tonight? OVERs have been the theme of this series, as six of the past seven meetings between the squads have gone above the closing total. The OVER is also 5-2 in their previous seven matchups in Vegas.

My best bet for Sharks-Golden Knights

OVER 6 goals

I’m admitedly not much of a fan of Jones, and despite his much better effort in Game 5, I don’t think the Knights will have an issue getting pucks past him in this one. These teams love going OVER totals and there’s been no shortage of fireworks in this series, so give me the OVER in Game 6.

The OVER is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between the Sharks and Golden Knights. The home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings between the Sharks and Golden Knights. The favorite is 5-1 in the last six meetings between the Sharks and Golden Knights.
