Sharks Have Won 10 Straight Against Western Conference Opposition

The Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets return home tonight after a 2-2-0 SU road trip and face a three-game stretch at Bell MTS Place against tough competition, starting with the San Jose Sharks. Sportsbooks opened the Jets as -125 home favorites with a total of 6.5.

Standout Stats

  • Winnipeg has split a pair of games with the Sharks this season with San Jose claiming the most recent matchup in a 3-2 overtime triumph on February 5. The Jets sit tied with Philadelphia for the most goals per game in March (4.20), as concerns around Winnipeg’s recently inconsistent offense have been put to bed.
  • The Sharks have won five straight games to lead Calgary by one point in the Pacific after blanking Minnesota 3-0 on Monday without receiving a point from their top two scorers – defenseman Brent Burns (73 points) and captain Joe Pavelski (36 goals). San Jose scored a combined 20 goals in the five victories.
  • Sharks goaltender Martin Jones has won every game during that streak, allowing only nine goals in that span. On the season, Jones is 34-13-5 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.
  • Is an OVER in store tonight? The Jets have gone OVER in four of their past five games with an average combined score of seven goals. In 2018-19, the Sharks are tied for second in the league in scoring (3.61 goals per game) while the Jets sit sixth (3.40).
  • San Jose has had no issue dispatching Western Conference opposition. In the Sharks’ past 10 meetings with squads from the West, they’re a perfect 10-0. The Sharks are averaging 3.77 goals per game against Western Conference opponents this season.

My best bet for Sharks-Jets

OVER 6.5 goals

Don’t let the high 6.5 total scare you – it’s been set this high for a reason. The Jets and Sharks are two of the top offensive teams in the NHL and can light up scoreboards on any given night. Winnipeg went OVER the 6.5 total itself in an 8-1 demolition of the Hurricanes last Friday, and while I don’t expect another eight-goal output from the Jets tonight, I think they go OVER the total.

The Sharks are 10-0 SU in their last 10 games vs the Western Conference.away The total has gone OVER in four of the Jets’ last five games (avg. combined score: 7.0).home The Sharks are 4-1 SU in their last five games on the road vs the Jets.
