NHL Shot Props Tonight - January 20

NHL Shot Props Tonight: Brandon Hagel Hits His Shot Prop vs Maple Leafs

Tonight, January 20th, 2025, I've got another three NHL shot props for you to consider. So far on the year I've gone 2-1 with my shot prop picks for a profit of 1.20 units.

For today's picks, I've gone for OVER 2.5 shots from Macklin Celebrini as he faces a Boston team that's been bleeding shots, I took the OVER for Tampa's Brandon Hagel who's been a shooting machine lately, and the UNDER for Zach Werenski against the Islanders.

All prop odds from BetMGM.

Shot Prop 1: Macklin Celebrini O2.5 SOG (-155)

Sharks vs Bruins Odds - 1:00 pm ET @ TD Garden

Starting us off is taking Macklin Celebrini to get three or more shots on the net against the Bruins in today's early puck drop in Boston. Celebrini has been on fire in more ways than one for the Sharks, but he's been specifically hot when it comes to getting pucks on net with 15 shots in his last four games, an average of 3.75 per game.

He'll find success today against the Bruins who've bled shots lately allowing the third-most shots in the league since the turn of the New Year, allowing 295 shots or 36.9 per game; woof. They're specifically porous to centers like Celebrini, allowing an average of 13 shots per game since Jan 1.

Shot Prop 2: Brandon Hagel O2.5 SOG (-110)

Lightning vs Maple Leafs Odds - 7:30 pm ET @ Scotiabank Arena

Hagel has been a star in the shot department for the Lightning lately. Since January 1st, he has 40 shots in 10 games, or four per game, and he's gone OVER 2.5 shots in seven of those games and in each of his last four games. The 26-year-old is equally adept at finding clear shooting lanes against the Leafs. He got 11 shots in two games against the Buds this season, going well OVER 2.5 shots in both games with six and five, respectively.

Considering that track record, I find it shocking that the books are giving Hagel -110 odds to hit at least three shots tonight, specifically considering his opponents are the Leafs.

Since Jan. 1 the Leafs have allowed the ninth-most shots in the league at 263 showing that Toronto can't clamp down defensively and stop shots from reaching their goalie. It's a perfect combination for Hagel to hit his shot prop tonight.

Shot Prop 3: Zach Werenski U2.5 SOG (+125)

Blue Jackets vs Islanders Odds - 7:30 pm ET @ UBS Arena

Werenski has been getting a ton of shots on the net recently with 62 shots over his last 12 games, for an average of 5.2 per game, but tonight against the Islanders I believe he'll get less than three shots so I'm taking UNDER 2.5 shots at +125 odds from BetMGM.

My belief rests with the Islanders' ability to keep shot counts low. Their last four opponents have only averaged 23 shots on net, then I consider Werenski's road form. The Blue Jacket's defenseman has averaged two shots on net in his last five road games and only hit OVER 2.5 shots once, it was a four-shot night against the Bruins, who, as we established earlier in this piece, have been bleeding shots lately.

I'm not convinced Werenski will get three shots against the Isles so I'll take the plus-money on the UNDER.
