The Vancouver Canucks are one win away from claiming their first Stanley Cup in franchise history as they journey to Boston to face the Bruins in Game 6 of the Cup final on Monday.
After getting embarrassed in Boston in Games 3 and 4 the Canucks regrouped at home and rebounded with a 1-0 win in Game 5 as a -160 favorite. Roberto Luongo, who had been roasted in Boston, picked up his game and recorded the shutout after making 31 saves. Maxim Lapierre scored the lone goal for Vancouver, his second of the postseason.
But beware the tempting underdog money (+125 at [custom:bodog-link]) on Vancouver. They have won here just twice since 1997. And beware OVER wagers (only 1 of past 9 meetings have gone OVER the number).
For the third time in the series the Bruins lost by one goal and a superb effort by goalie Tim Thomas was wasted. Thomas made 24 saves in the loss and has only allowed six goals in the entire series, but Boston is still down 3-2. Thanks to their big blowout wins at home the Bruins are actually outscoring the Canucks 14-6 in the series.
Boston's got such a huge edge in goals in the series because the Canucks' big guns continue to be shut down. The Sedins went pointless again in Game 5 and have been nearly invisible in the entire series. Henrik is still looking for his first point of the series while Daniel, the top scorer in the NHL this season, has only one goal and an assist in five games.
With the series returning to Boston for Game 6 the Bruins are a -140 favorite in the game at 5Dimes. So far the home team has won every game in the series and the Bruins need that trend to continue if they are going to force Game 7. Not only have the Bruins won both games at home in the series but they've won five in a row overall at TD Garden and nine of their last 10.
The Canucks are only 5-5 on the road during their playoff run and Luongo has played much better at home than on the road all season. If Luongo continues to crack away from home the series could be headed back to Vancouver on Wednesday night for Game 7.
