Matthews Looks To Continue His Hot Streak On The Road

To call Auston Matthews a road warrior right now would be an understatement. He has goals in a franchise-record 10 straight road games. He also sits third in the league with 25 goals, just two behind Alexander Ovechkin.

The Maple Leafs have points in 14 of their last 17 games, thanks in large part to their goaltending. Jack Campbell has been exceptional between the pipes, going 5-0-1 in his last six starts. He has the second-best save percentage in the league at .931 and sits fourth with a 2.13 goals-against average.

Toronto will be without a number of regulars for this one. Defenseman Jake Muzzin is out with a concussion while forwards Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase and blue-liner Justin Holl are in COVID-19 protocol.

Rangers’ Contributions Coming From Everywhere

The New York Rangers have won six of their last eight games with a different player stepping up on any given night. Mika Zibanejad is on a five-game point streak and has nine goals in his last 11 games. Reigning Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox is making a case to win the award again, leading the team with 39 points in as many games, while Chris Kreider has 24 goals, fourth-most in the NHL. And let’s not forget Artemi Panarin, who is one of the league’s best point producers.

But the Blueshirts are being led by goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who has won nine of his last 10 decisions. He’s tied for the league lead in goals-against average (1.99) and has the best save percentage (.939). He is a big reason why the Rangers are second in the league in goals against per game.

The Rangers will likely be without Alexis Lafreniere for this game as he remains in COVID-19 protocol.

Maple Leafs vs Rangers Pick & Insights

Maple Leafs: Keys To Cover

The Maple Leafs have the second-best power play in the NHL, running at nearly 30 percent. If they are to solve Shesterkin, they may need to do it with the man advantage. William Nylander is a player to watch – he is second on the team with 14 power-play points. If he and the top unit can break through against the Rangers’ solid penalty kill, then money laid on the Leafs will likely pay out.

Rangers: Keys To Cover

Keep Auston Matthews in check. The Rangers are 10-3-2 on home ice and have held opponents to three goals or less in 12 of those games. If they can contain the high-flying Maple Leafs and continue to get contributions from all four forward lines, then it will make your Maple Leafs vs Rangers pick that much more difficult.
