  • After leveling the series at two games apiece with a decisive win on Wednesday, the Capitals headed home to D.C. to prepare for the swing game. Despite it now being a best-of-three, oddsmakers have pegged the Capitals as -260 favorites to move past the Maple Leafs and given that Washington has lost just 10 games at the Verizon Center since the start of the 2016-17 campaign, that seems about right.

    SHARK BITES
    • The Capitals are 12-0 SU in their last 12 games at home after losing their most recent home game.
    • The Maple Leafs are 1-8 SU in their last 9 games on the road against the Capitals.
    • The Capitals allowed just 1.63 goals per game at the Verizon Center in the regular season.

    That being said, the young Buds have hung around this series and they nearly erased a three-goal deficit in Game 4, just barely failing to send the contest to a fourth consecutive overtime. Toronto outshot the Caps by seven in the game but they simply gave the Presidents’ Trophy Sportsbooks too many good looks at the other end. Washington capitalized on several odd-man rushes and were two steps ahead of the Leafs all night long.

    As for Game 5, the Caps opened as -215 favorites and books are fairly confident they’ll get it done Friday, exposing themselves to a juicy +180 moneyline for the Leafs.

    I’ve touted the Capitals’ ML tonight parlayed with the UNDER 5.5 as I think Barry Trotz finally gets the boys tightened up at the blue line. Washington limited opponents to just 26 shots per game at the Verizon Center and Braden Holtby faced an average of just 4.35 five-on-five high-danger shots per game in his 37 home starts in the regular season.
