Vancouver Canucks Calgary Flames NHL

Door Closing on Canucks’ Playoff Hopes

The 2015-16 NHL season hasn’t been a banner year for Canadian franchises and while the Vancouver Canucks seemed like the best bet of the bunch to make the playoffs, a three-game losing streak has essentially shut the door on that idea. They’ll look to end that recent slump with a visit to the Calgary Flames Friday night.

Shark Bites
  • OVER is 4-1 in the Flames’ last five games.
  • The Canucks are 3-0 SU in their last three games with zero days off after their previous game.
  • The Flames are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games as favorites.

At online shop Sportsbook, the Flames are -160 in moneyline markets while the Canucks are +130. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 5.5 goals is presently +120 while UNDER 5.5 goals is -150.

The Canucks have gone just 2-5 SU in the month of February and have been on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night – all on home ice – in their last three games.

Strangely, the Canucks will be happy to get on the road, where they’ve gone 2-0 SU since the All-Star break compared to 0-5 on home ice. They will not be excited to be in Calgary however.

Calgary has been a thorn in the Canucks’ side recently and although Vancouver won the only other meeting in Calgary this season (5-1 on October 7), the Flames have gone 4-1 SU in the last five meetings at home and 8-3 SU in the last 11 meetings overall, including wins in the past two head-to-head contests.

The Canucks are still alive in the playoff hunt and a win over their Pacific Division rivals could be the rallying point they need to make a last season push.
