Opening Odds Analysis

The game opened with the Golden Knights as favorites at -120 and the line has moved to between -115 and -125 depending on the sportsbook. The total opened at 5.5 and is locked in at that number with EVEN odds on the OVER and UNDER.

Vegas News & Notes

The Golden Knights are in first place in the West Division and sit four points up on the Wild as part of a tier of three teams at the top of the division.

The Knights have been among the best teams in the NHL all season long and are also one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs. They have the second-most high-danger chances in the league since March 1, with only the Hurricanes ahead of them. The Knights also have the eighth-best expected goals for percentage (xGF%) in that span, largely because they have the second-most expected goals.

There are a couple of injury concerns for the team as leading goal scorer Max Pacioretty is questionable for Wednesday’s game with an undisclosed injury while bottom-six winger Tomas Nosek is also questionable.

In net, Marc-Andre Fleury likely gets the start after Robin Lehner allowed six goals in Monday’s loss. Fleury has been spectacular with a 23-10-0 record and .926 save percentage.

Minnesota News & Notes

The Wild have had a great, albeit somewhat surprising season as they sit just behind two elite teams in Vegas and Colorado at the top of the West. The Wild have also had Vegas’ number this season, winning five of the seven matchups.

The Wild dominated the Golden Knights in some possession metrics in Monday’s win. They had 15 high-danger chances to just five for Vegas. They also had 63.18 percent of the expected goals and had more overall chances and shots. Overall, the Wild have the 13th-ranked xGF% and have allowed the second-fewest high-danger chances in the league. This team is built from the back end out.

A big part of the team’s success has been goaltender Cam Talbot. After an unsuccessful end to his time in Edmonton and a stint with Calgary last season, Talbot has resurrected his career in Minnesota with an 18-7-4 record, a .919 save percentage and his lowest goals-against average in years at 2.57.

Betting Pick: Wild +105

With EVEN odds on the total, we like the Wild at +105. We have seen it as high as +111 and think it’s a no-brainer bet as the Wild have not only had the Knights’ number this season, they’re an almost equally good team anyway. Missing Pacioretty would also be a big blow to Vegas.
