Predators face the Jets in divisional clash

The Nashville Predators will look to start a new win streak when the Winnipeg Jets come to town. The Preds were riding a 10-game stretch of wins before getting edged by New Jersey in a shootout on Saturday. This is the fourth and final meeting between these divisional foes this season with Nashville winning two of the first three tilts.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone OVER in the Jets’ last four games on the road vs the Predators.
  • The total has gone OVER in six of the Predators’ last eight games vs teams with winning records.
  • The Jets are 5-0 SU in their last five games after consecutive losses.

The Predators are sitting pretty at the top of the Western Conference and this matchup has playoff implications with Nashville only leading Winnipeg by six points and a game in hand. The last time these two teams locked horns at the end of February, the Preds won in a 6-5 barnburner with an intensity that rivaled a Game 7.

One of the main reasons for Nashville’s surge has been its offensive output since the all-star break as the Predators rank third in goals per game (3.62) and are outshooting their opponents by five shots a game. On the other side of the puck, the Preds rank first in goals allowed per game in that same stretch and goaltender Pekka Rinne is neck and neck with Andrei Vasilevskiy for the Vezina Trophy. If bettors are planning to back Nashville, they should know the Preds are 16-2 SU in their last 18 games vs their division at home.

As for the Jets, they rank near the Preds in both of those categories since the all-star break and are 9-4 SU in their last 13 games. But the injury bug has not been kind to Winnipeg recently as center Mark Scheifele is nursing an upper-body injury and will be out for tonight’s contest. Luckily for the Jets, they have another stud-in-waiting with 19-year-old Patrik Laine, who is second in goals this season with 41. However, the trend that doesn’t bode well for Winnipeg is the visiting team is 2-5 SU in the last seven games in this matchup.

The total opened at 5.5 and bettors should be all-in on the OVER. In the three meetings between these teams this season, the OVER hit in all three with an average combined score of 9.6 goals per game.
