Lightning Ready To Conquer Central Division Woes

Jets vs Lightning Betting Odds November 16, 2019

Fresh off a 9-3 pounding of the New York Rangers, the Tampa Bay Lightning have enjoyed a steady diet of Eastern Conference teams to open their 2019-20 campaign – but that's about to change as they welcome the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon. Tampa Bay plays five of its next six against the West – including four against the Central Division, which gave it fits last year.

Winnipeg Jets News & Notes

The Jets have been one of the top road teams in the league in the early stages in the season, but that record will be put to the test over the next few weeks, with Winnipeg having kicked off a stretch of eight of 10 games away from Manitoba. That said, road success is nothing new to the Jets, who have finished second and third in the Central Division in road points the past two years.

Of greater concern for Winnipeg is forward Patrik Laine's prolonged goal slump. The three-time 30-goal scorer has converted just four through his first 18 games this season – and while his team-leading assist tally makes up for that in some small part, the Jets (who went 12-7 SU in games in which Laine scored in 2018-19) would undoubtedly like to see him light a few more lamps.

Tampa Bay Lightning News & Notes

The Lightning might have been virtually untouchable during last year's incredible 62-win season, but there was one group of teams that gave them all they could handle. Tampa Bay won just seven of its 14 games against the Central Division, including a split with the Jets; to put that in perspective, the Lightning lost just eight of its 52 games against the entire Eastern Conference.

And those problems with the Central have carried over into 2019-20, as well. Tampa has played the Western Conference just twice this season but lost both games – a 3-2 setback to Nashville and a 6-2 drubbing vs. Colorado. The Lightning comes in having dropped four consecutive games to Central Division foes despite being favored in three (and a -110 co-fave in the other).

Betting Pick: Tampa Bay Moneyline (-240)

The Lightning have won 65 regular-season home games since the start of the 2017-18 season while losing just 23. Look for them to take advantage of the strange start time while building off the momentum of Thursday's one-sided win over the Rangers.
