Brazil With Chance to Avenge 2014 World Cup Defeat

Olympic Gold Medal Soccer Odds

Although it’s not the senior teams playing for gold, we are finally getting a rematch of the game that saw Brazil eliminated from their own World Cup with a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Germans. The two meet Friday evening in what looks on paper, to be the best contest we’ve seen at these Olympics.

  • Germany’s goal differential for the tournament is now +16, Brazil’s is +12.
  • Brazil has not yet conceded a goal in this tournament.
  • The Germans have four players who have six or more points.

Brazil advanced to the men’s soccer final in very convincing fashion as they ran over Honduras 6-0 in the semis. Neymar opened the scoring in the first minute for Brazil and capped the game in the 90th minute with his second of the match. The Barcelona forward now has 6 points in the tournament after his slow start at Rio and will be a nightmare for German defenders.

The Germans had a more conservative effort against a strong Nigerian team but moved through quite easily with a 2-0 victory in which they owned 53% of the possession and peppered the Super Eagles' goal with 11 shots. Germany will have a chance Saturday but only if they score two or more goals.

As the Olympic hosts, Brazil has been given the moneyline edge with Bovada tagging them as +105 favorites. The Germans have had a leaky defense at times and could struggle to keep the talented forwards of Brazil in front of them and have been pegged as +230 underdogs.
