Germany's Offence Firing at an Impressive Clip

In what could be one of the most entertaining matches so far at these Olympics, Nigeria will square off with Germany in the second of the men’s semifinals. Both teams have a prolific scoring record so far and have combined for 27 goals in eight total games – that’s 3.38 goals per game.

  • Nigeria is the only team left in the field that has won Olympic gold.
  • Germany is 0-1 in Olympic soccer semifinals.
  • Nigeria’s goal differential so far is +2, Germany’s is +14.

The Germans faced Portugal in the quarterfinals and cruised to a 4-0 victory in which they owned 56% of the possession and pelted the Portuguese goal with 22 shots, 11 of which tested the keeper. Germany does not have a history of succeeding at Olympic soccer but possess an offense that will be hard for even the likes of Brazil to contain.

The Super Eagles have been an erratic squad that got through to the semis with a 2-0 over a Denmark team that qualified for the quarters with a with a win over South Africa and a draw with Iraq – not exactly football powerhouses.

Germany’s body of work at these Olympics has been far more impressive than Nigeria’s and I’ve said all along the Germans are my favorite squad to upset Brazil for the gold medal. Bovada has Germany as a -105 favorite heading into this one and I feel that line is spot on.

This game could have a ton of goals in it with Germany’s offense clicking on all cylinders and I expect both teams to pot at least one. If you can find a both teams to score bet, take it.
