The Rio Olympics Are Way Better When You Bet On Them

I typically don’t care about men’s field hockey, synchronized diving, miniature BMX bike racing or athletes trying to not fall off the unbalanced beam in hopes of better scores from judges.

So you could say I’m an Olympic skeptic – especially a Rio Olympics skeptic.

But that all changed last night. I became totally enthralled with a men’s indoor volleyball match between Brazil and Canada where Canada threatened early to topple the world No. 1 seed and host country.

Thank you, sports betting.

I was able to successfully pull off a 50-point middle via in-game wagering when I took OVER 142.5 points in the match and UNDER 191.5 points just a few minutes later. Odds went bananas after Canada pulled off a surprise win in the first set and the OVER/UNDER.

I don’t know much about volleyball but I do know 50-point middles don’t come along every day. It’s a first in sports betting for me and crazy like a green pool or a judo fighter getting beaten up while celebrating a medal win.

So I guess what I’m saying here is don’t be afraid to give the Olympics a go on the betting front. I’ve never seen more Olympic betting options and there are definitely opportunities out there.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much if you’re not the world’s leading expert on fencing analytics or if you can’t recite the world rankings for women’s water polo. The guys setting the lines probably don’t know much more than you do about these sports and they are largely setting these lines for entertainment and customer service reasons.

It’s the sportsbooks’ commitment to offering lines on anything that’s televised. Bless their hearts.

So if you’re watching, don’t be afraid to dive in and have some fun. (Odds at several of our recommended sportsbooks.) Set a modest budget and bet responsibly and you might be surprised what vulnerabilities you find in the lines and how much more you enjoy the Zika Olympics.
