The music industry’s elite are set to descend on the Staples Center this weekend for the 59th annual Grammy Awards, and oddsmakers are getting prepped for the big event.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook is offering odds on which celebrities will take home the hardware in L.A. Here’s a breakdown of each prop that’s available to bet on:
Album of the Year
Beyonce’s Lemonade is the undisputed favorite at -200, with Adele’s 25 (+200), Justin Bieber’s Purpose (+900), Drake’s Views (+1500) and Sturgill Simpson’s A Sailor’s Guide to the Earth (+2200) in the mix as well. If we know anything about Beyonce, it’s that she rarely loses.
Lemonade is one of the superstar’s most successful albums, which is really saying something considering she’s the most nominated woman and the second-most awarded woman in Grammy history (20 awards and 62 nominations). Adele, Justin Bieber and Drake are huge names (with no disrespect to Sturgill Simpson), but they’ll be hard pressed to knock off Queen Bey this time around.
Best New Artist
This is an interesting one. Chance the Rapper is the -225 front-runner, but the Chainsmokers are incredibly intriguing at +250. Maren Morris (+700), Anderson Paak (+1800) and Kelsea Ballerini (+2000) should rightfully be considered long shots.
Chance the Rapper may be considered a “new artist” at the Grammys, but he’s hardly new to hip-hop fans. The Chicago native has been one of the industry’s brightest stars for years, and his fantastic 2016 album Coloring Book propelled him into the upper echelon of the rap world next to heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Drake.
While I personally think Chance deserves the distinction, I’m not willing to bet against the Chainsmokers. The duo exploded onto the scene last year with their massive hit “Closer” and successfully followed that up with “Paris,, which already has over 96 million streams on Spotify. Less mainstream hip hop tends to be perennially overlooked at the Grammys, so I’d recommend grabbing the +250 value and backing the Chainsmokers here.
Record OF the Year
At the age of 28, Adele is no stranger to the spotlight. The Brit has already collected 10 Grammys and has a -500 shot to take home a few more in 2017 thanks to her smash single “Hello.” Beyonce’s “Formation” (+500), Rihanna’s “Work” (+900), Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” (+1500) and Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out” (+2500) are all on the board at plus-money.
It’s going to take a herculean effort for any of the other artists listed above to eclipse Adele, and her -500 price is a lot of chalk to lay. Better value can be found elsewhere, needless to say.
Song of the Year
Unlike the Record of the Year, which is awarded for a single or for one track on an album and is received by the performer and production team, the Song of the Year goes to only the composer(s) of the song. Once again, Adele’s “Hello” tops the list at -500. Beyonce’s “Formation” (+500), Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” (+900), Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” (+1200) and Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” (+3300) rank behind the critically acclaimed singer.
