2018 World Series of Poker Prop Bets Roundup

When it comes to betting on poker tournaments at the sportsbooks, you can do the simple thing and wager just on the outcome of an event. However, some of the real excitement comes from proposition betting – “prop bets” – on the different action that occurs during a tournament.

The World Series of Poker is ripe for such prop bets, especially with its $10,000 championship event, the “Main Event” – the action that occurs offers a plethora of betting options. A couple of sportsbooks are offering these prop bets with prices that could be profitable under the right circumstances.

Sportsbook has set lines for a few options on the board. With the youth movement in the world of poker, the sportsbook has set up an OVER/UNDER wager on the eventual age of the next world champion. Sportsbook has installed the line at 24.5, with the OVER wager set at -160 and the UNDER wager set at +130.

U.S. favorite to be home of 2018 WSOP Main Event Sportsbook

The oddsmakers at Sportsbook are also putting a line down on where the next world champion will come from. Because the field is predominantly American citizens, the United States is a -120 favorite to provide poker’s next superstar. The money to be won is with betting on the other regions: Europe (+275), Canada (+400) and the field (any other region, +600) are more lucrative picks.

As well, Sportsbook has offered props on the World Series of Poker for several years and 2018 is no different. The Sportsbook oddsmakers are a bit more comfortable in the fact that the next world champion will come from the United States (-150), but they offer more betting options. Sportsbook offers up Europe at +205 and Canada at +400, but they also offer South or Central America at +900 and Australia at +1200.

If you think the next Sportsbook of the World Series of Poker Main Event is going to come from somewhere outside of those areas, then you can get a +900 price on them.

Last two champs have won with only a pair

Sportsbook also has a prop bet on the age of the eventual 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event champion, but both sides – “28 years or older” and “27 years or younger” – have been set at -120. Same goes for two other props, one for the eventual winning hand (both “two pair or better” and “one pair or worse” are -120) and how many American players will be at the final table (set at 5.5, with a -120 price on both sides).

If you’re looking to get into the prop bets, you’d be well advised to do some research on the subject. Over the past decade, the age of the champion of the WSOP Main Event has been predominantly under 40, with only Jerry Yang (in his 40s when he won) and Qui Nguyen (40 when he won) even getting close to that mark.

Furthermore, both of the last two champions – Scott Blumstein and Nguyen – have won the title with only a pair. This research could be the edge you need for a successful prop bet.
