Bodog Poker Room Review

Bodog is one of the original pioneers of the online poker space.

The poker site officially opened its doors in 2004 — in the midst of the poker boom — but the Bodog brand has roots that go all the way back to 1994.

As with most poker sites it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for Bodog since the halcyon days of the mid-2000s but the site has settled down over the last few years and become one of the most reliable sites to play poker.

Despite many changes over the years Bodog Poker still retains its position as one of the slickest online sites around with its iconic red and black design that channels the VIP lifestyle.

It’s important to note that Bodog doesn’t offer poker for US-based players. Instead Bodog directs all US traffic to Bovada Poker and Ignition, which were created to handle US interest. Meanwhile Bodog will happily accept players from Canada, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world with an excellent selection of tournaments and cash games.

Bodog is especially renowned for having some of the weaker players and its not uncommon for players to see their win-rates go up on the site. The Bodog brand is well known for its sports betting businesses and there is definitely some crossover between the punters and the poker players.

In terms of software Bodog offers one of the better platforms with a relatively intuitive design and a number of features including  Another great feature of Bodog is the anonymous tables, which help hide newer players from the true sharks on the site.

Promotions on Bodog are generally quite good with a big sign-up bonus and potential synergy with the sports betting operations. Finally Bodog Poker offers support for a variety of platforms including Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Games Offered

Bodog Poker offers a wide selection of cash games, sit-and-go tournaments and multi-table tournaments in numerous variants.

The also offers a turbo-charged variant called Zone Poker, which allows players to fold their hand and immediately get a new one. The site also offers the popular jackpot-style Sit & Go where players win a randomized prize.

Bodog has support for three-handed, six-handed and nine-handed table but the majority of action happens on six-handed tables. Omaha is only available six-handed.

As usual Bodog also has play money games for anyone looking to try out the software before they make a deposit.

games on Bodog:
  • No-Limit Hold’em
  • Limit Hold’em
  • Pot-Limit Omaha
  • Limit Omaha
  • Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo
  • Limit Omaha Hi-Lo

Mobile App Support

Bodog Poker handles their mobile app support slightly different than most online poker sites.

First off, there is no standalone mobile app for Bodog. Instead the site relies on an in-browser option.

In-browser poker sites have their pros and cons but the best thing about them is that you can play them on pretty much any device. That means you can use your iPhone, iPad or Android device with no issues.

There’s a good chance Bodog took this approach because it already has a substantial in-browser option for its sports betting operation and this makes everything seamless for the site.

In-browser poker sites do have some issues and can be slightly less reliable than standalone apps but the Bodog option is an excellent implementation of the software.

Loyalty Program & Promotions

Bodog’s welcome bonus changes frequently but its consistently one of the best in the industry.

There are a number of poker sites that restrict their deposit match to a few hundred dollars but it’s possible to get a deposit match up to $1,000 with Bodog. Of course you have to unlock your bonus by playing a set number of hands but it’s still nice to have the big option.

Bodog has a very cool Royal Flush bonus where any No-Limit Hold’em player that hits poker’s best hand receives a bonus of 50 times the big blind up to $200.

If you like the idea of a Royal Flush bonus then the bad beat bonus is likely up your alley as well. Any player who gets aces full of kings (A-A-A-K-K) or better beaten by four-of-a-kind or better gets 100 times the big blind up to a maximum of $1,000.

Bodog also offers a simplified loyalty program where you can earn poker points, which can be exchanged for tournament entries and cash bonuses.
