Chelsea in Tough to Advance to Quarters

While Chelsea has played much better since Guus Hiddink took over managerial duties, winning the Champions League is their best bet to return to next year’s tournament. The Blues are already down 2-1 after a defeat in Paris and will be gunning for a big win at Stamford Bridge with Paris Saint-Germain visiting Wednesday.

Shark Bites
  • Five of Chelsea’s last six games in all competitions have gone OVER 2.5 goals.
  • Chelsea is unbeaten in its last 10 home matches in all competitions.
  • Two of PSG’s three away games in the Champions League have gone OVER 2.5 goals.

Chelsea is +180 in moneyline markets at online shop Bet365 while PSG is +170 and the Draw is +240. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 2.5 goals is +108 while UNDER 2.5 goals is -138.

You would be hard pressed to find a club that has had an easier time domestically than PSG. The Parisian club has dominated Ligue 1 and sits 23 points ahead of second-placed Monaco with nine matches remaining and have a +53 goal differential. They are coming off a disappointing 0-0 draw with Montpellier and suffered their first loss of the Ligue 1 season in a 2-1 defeat to Lyon the game before that.

Chelsea has been almost unbeatable since Hiddink took over. The loss to PSG in the first leg was their only defeat during the Dutchman’s tenure as Chelsea boss. Since Jose Mourinho was let go, the Blues have won six and drawn seven in the Premier League. That tally puts them up to 10th domestically.

The thing is, Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League via the Premier League are now slim-to-none thanks to the horrific start. Their best hope is to just go out and win this season’s Champions League. Right now, PSG is the club that stands in their way.

The way PSG has played, that will be no easy task.
