City Needs to Win Manchester Derby

Sergio Aguero David Silva Manchester City Premier League

Normally, a meeting this late in the season between Premier League giants Manchester City and Manchester United would have title implications. This time around, however, there is little to be excited about save for some local bragging rights. The two struggling titans are set to clash with top-five positioning potentially on the line at the Etihad Stadium Sunday afternoon.

  • The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford back on October 25.
  • Manchester City won the last two meetings at the Etihad Stadium.
  • Midfield playmaker Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined for Manchester City.

City is currently -120 in moneyline markets at online shop Bet365 while Manchester United is +375 and the Draw is +275. As for the total, OVER 2.5 goals is presently -105 while UNDER 2.5 goals is -118.

It hasn’t been the best of season for the two Mancunian clubs needless to say. City enter the weekend fourth in the table with 51 points but have been in horrible form. United sit sixth with 47 points and are coming off a poor loss to West Brom in league play last time out.

The Citizens are in danger of losing their Champions League position with West Ham right behind them on 49 points. City has just one win in its previous five games and is coming off a 0-0 draw away to struggling Norwich last weekend.

Both teams will be gunning for three points as there is a lot to play for here. City to keep a hold of its Champions League position; United to crack into the top five and potentially snag that Europa League place. But mostly, this is a local derby and the clubs will (read: should) be playing for pride.
