England looks to avenge World Cup loss to Croatia in UEFA Nations League fixture

Harry Kane England Croatia UEFA Nations League soccer betting odds

Croatia was without doubt one of the surprise packages of this summer’s World Cup, making it all the way to the final before being beaten by France in a hugely entertaining game. The Croats now take on the side they knocked out in the semifinals, England, with Gareth Southgate and his young side very much looking for revenge on Friday night in the UEFA Nations League fixture.

SHARK BITES
  • Croatia has not won any of its last three matches across all competitions.
  • England has lost three of its last four games across all competitions.
  • England has won four, and Croatia three, of the eight previous meetings between these two teams.

Croatia looking to rediscover form

Despite such a good showing in Russia, Croatia’s recent form has seen a slight dip. Following that 4-2 defeat in the World Cup final to France, they held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in a friendly game before being thrashed 6-0 by Spain in their UEFA Nations League opener.

After such a humiliating loss, they will be looking to bounce back against a side they beat just a few months ago. England, however, will be smarting from its semifinal exit and will be looking to avenge such a bitter defeat.

The betting is tight for this one, but it is Croatia that comes in as the slight favorite to recover lost form and take the points. The home side is at +165 to beat England for the second time in a matter of months, while Southgate’s Lions are at +190 to pick up their first points in the UEFA Nations League. A draw would look to be the least likely result, and is priced accordingly at +225.

England can count on fan support

With such an exciting, young and up-and-coming side, this group of England players can count on the full support of the public back home. They put in some positive showings in Russia but were ultimately outclassed in midfield when push came to shove in that semifinal against Croatia.

A large number of these England players are still learning the ropes when it comes to international football, and for that reason we are expecting Croatia to have the edge in what should be a closely fought contest. It is no mean feat trying to predict exact scorelines, but a 2-1 win for Croatia – the score in the World Cup semi – is priced competitively at +900.

Backing such a scoreline would subsequently allow you to back OVER 2.5 goals in the game, while both teams to score is at the much shorter price of -110. Combos are always a good way to go if you can find one to suit the match, and a win for Croatia, paired with both teams to score, looks well worth backing at a price of +500. This will not be a match to take your eyes off.

Croatia to come from behind again?

Going back to that semifinal, Kieran Tripper gave England the lead before Croatia leveled after the interval and won it in extra time. In other words, Croatia won after coming from behind and is at +900 to do the same on this occasion.

The English, meanwhile, are at -110 to win either half – something they managed to do in Russia – while the Croats are at +333 to score in both halves. As we are expecting goals, a different combo, of a Croatia win and OVER 2.5 goals in the game, may also be worth backing at a price of +375.

But who is the most likely to find the goals to win the contest? On the Croatian side, Ivan Perisic put in a fantastic performance when these two teams met at the World Cup, and he is at +220 to score at any time, or +600 to net either the first or last goal of the game.

For England, it is little surprise that Harry Kane is the main goal threat. The Tottenham striker is at just +137 to be on the scoresheet during the 90 minutes, while you can back him at +375 to either open or close the scoring on the night.
