Sergio Aguero Tottenham Hotspur Manchester City Premier League Betting Preview

Waiting to Get Manchester City at a Good Price? Now is Your Chance

If you’ve been waiting to bet Manchester City in the Premier League at a price better than -1400 and -1200 and whatever else we’ve seen with this club recently, now is your chance. The competition ramps up a notch from the Burnleys, Brightons and Cardiffs of the league as the Citizens now travel to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Online shop Sportsbook currently has City priced at -140 in moneyline markets with Tottenham coming back at +365 and the draw +325. The total is tabbed at 3 with OVER at even money and UNDER the chalk option at -120. City is a half-goal fave in spread markets at -145 with Spurs +120 as pups.

This is the final match of Gameweek 10 in the Premier League and certainly has the potential and star power to provide the most eye-catching football we see this week. But what’s the best way to bet this game?

Let’s dig into this game and find some bets, shall we?

SHARK BITES
  • Manchester City has outscored opponents 15-0 in its last five Premier League games.
  • Tottenham has won two of the last three matches in this fixture.
  • Both teams played midweek Champions League games with much different results.

Clean as a Whistle

We all know just how irresistible City can be in attack, but this team is equally as good at the back as they are at picking teams apart offensively. To date, City has only conceded three goals (vs Huddersfield, at Wolves, vs Newcastle), which is joint-lowest in the Premier League with Liverpool.

What’s more is that City has actually kept a clean sheet in five consecutive league games, which includes a meeting with Liverpool at Anfield, and outscored opponents 15-0 over that span. This is no small feat. Sure, in the mix in those games was the likes of Cardiff, Brighton and Burnley, but this is a very impressive run of defensive form by the Citizens.

City allows a Premier League-low 6.1 shots against per game and commits a league-low eight fouls per game. Sure, this has a lot to do with the fact that they lead the Premier League in possession at 65.3 percent, so opponents barely have the ball, but still, brilliant numbers for the Citizens.

Spurs Won’t Be Intimidated

Like I mention in the video above, it doesn’t seem like it but Tottenham is off to its best start ever in the Premier League. The North London club has seven wins, two losses and 21 points from its first nine games. Building on that points total will be tough against what is probably the best team in the league, but Spurs certainly won’t go down without a fight.

In fact, as good as City has been down the years, Tottenham has won two of the previous three home games in the league against the blue half of Manchester. In 2015 Spurs thumped City 4-1 and in 2016 they blanked them 2-0. Last season, however, City got the best of Tottenham by a score of 3-1 thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gündogan and Raheem Sterling.

City did take both games against Spurs last season by a combined score of 7-2, but don’t be surprised to see Spurs put in a much better shift Monday. As stated, it’s their best start to the season and they have yet to really put in a strong 90-minute performance, save for the Manchester United game back in August.

Both Coming Off Champions League Games

The fixture list for the top clubs in Europe is always jam-packed around this time of year and entering Gameweek 10 of the league schedule, both City and Spurs are coming off Champions League games with much different results.

City beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 and sit atop Group F with six points while Spurs left Holland with a 2-2 draw against PSV Eindhoven and sit third in Group B with just one point. Spurs will be left feeling disheartened with that result as it was basically a must-win game as their competition in the group with Barcelona and Inter Milan is extremely tough. Tottenham was the better side, statistically dominated and won the xG battle, but that is all meaningless when you board the plane with one point.

City was good in a very tough away day, getting goals from David Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva. Much like Spurs, they are in a tricky group as well that features Lyon and Hoffenheim on top of the Ukrainian side.

Because of the midweek fixtures, it will be important to see what Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino do with their starting lineups. City has the edge in terms of “rest” as they played on Tuesday with Spurs playing Wednesday. Always important, but keep on eye on player news here.

Ninja’s Pick

The City moneyline was -125 earlier in the week but as I publish this written preview, the line has moved 15 cents to -140. That said, I still love it. It’s great value for the best team in the Premier League and you won’t hit too many spots where you can buy City at this price.

I am a Spurs fan so this could be a bit of an emotional hedge, but City at -140? It’s just too good to pass up. No matter the opponent.
