Euro Dark Horses Will Matchup Saturday

Iceland and Hungary have been two of the biggest surprises at the 2016 Euros and have a relatively deep history of matchups. The two sides have played ten matches since 1988 with the Hungarians edging the all-time series seven-wins to three going into their fixture Saturday.

  • In ten matches, Iceland and Hungary have never drawn.
  • Hungary has 6 wins, 2 losses and 5 draws in their last 13 fixtures.
  • Iceland finished Euro qualifying with 6 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws.

Hungary came away with a 2-0 win over a much stronger Austrian team, who by all accounts played a horrific match. The two sides may have had a much closer result if it hadn’t been for a red-card taken by Austrian Centre back Aleksandar Dragovic in the 66th minute. The win was the Hungarian's first major tournament victory since 1986.

Portugal had to be disappointed coming away with only one-point in their first match against Iceland, who scored their first ever Euro goal in the 1-1 result. With only four shots and 28% possession against the Portuguese, Iceland did just enough to pull off the massive upset.

Iceland comes into this match as the slight +160 favorite over Hungary (+205) in what is basically a toss up in the Group F fixture between these two dark horse teams.
