Euro 2020 Quarter Finals Betting Breakdown:

Switzerland vs Spain

Where: St. Petersburg Stadium, St. Petersburg

When: July 2, 12 p.m. ET

How: Switzerland have come though arguably the toughest opponent in the Euro Cup. They were trailing 3-1 to France after three second-half goals. Switzerland even missed a penalty which would have put them up 2-0 in that encounter. Somehow, Switzerland made an astonishing comeback to level the match 3-3. Five precise penalties in the shootout by Switzerland and a fantastic save by Yan Sommer off Kylian Mbappe’s penalty put Switzerland through.

Spain also came through a riveting, thrilling Round of 16 match. They first conceded an own goal to Croatia before taking the lead again. Eventually, the match ended in normal time level at 3-3. A stellar goal from Alvaro Morata broke the game open in extra time before Spain added another to confirm their qualification into the quarter finals.

Key quote: “Great groups of players are forged by big experiences. "The guys really got round me on the pitch and in the dressing room and that speaks a lot about them. Tournaments are won by squads not by teams. You can see our unity and when the result is against or in favour we are totally behind one another,” Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Fun fact: Spain hadn’t scored more than four goals in their first 42 matches in the Euro Cup. They have now become the first team to score five goals in successive matches at the European Championship.

Quick analysis: Spain have proved themselves as one of the best teams in the world repeatedly over the last two decades, and deserve reocognition from a Euro 2020 Quarter Finals betting perspective. Switzerland have just knocked out the title favorites. Both teams are high on confidence after a spectacular run into this stage. This might be a more compact defensive performance after both these teams ended normal time with 3-3 draws in the Round of 16.

It seems like Spain have a little more than Switzerland even with considering the possibility of an upset. Granit Xhaka will also miss this match after picking up a yellow card against France. That will also have an impact on the outcome.

Stat to note: Switzerland and Spain have not previously met at the European Championship. They have, however, met three times in the World Cup: in 1966, 1994 and 2010. Switzerland had won the last time these two teams met in a major international tournament.

Value Pick: Spain to win to nil (+180)

Safe Pick: Spain to qualify (-334)

Belgium vs Italy

Where: Allianz Arena, Munich

When: July 2, 3 p.m. ET

How: Belgium put in a masterful defensive performance to beat defending champions Portugal in the Round of 16. Thorgan Hazard scored the match’s only goal, a spectacular, swerving effort from outside the box to beat the keeper.

Italy needed extra time against Austria in a topsy-turvy match that eventually finished 2-1. Roberto Mancini’s super substitutes did the work in extra time to score twice in quick succession before Austria scored to further tense up a thriller. Italy hung on to progress and break the national record for most matches without defeat.

Key quote: "I didn't have a lot of work to do in the previous three games, but I knew that wasn't going to be the case against Portugal. I am proud of my team-mates; they defended very well. Italy will be difficult too, but we have proved today that we are ready for it,” goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said.

Fun fact: Four of the five teams to have knocked out the defending champions in a knockout match at the Euro Cup have eventually won the title, with the only exception being Italy in 2016. Belgium beat reigning champions Portugal 1-0 in the Round of 16.

Quick analysis: Belgium will be sweating immensely on the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard. Both of those players have very different roles in this Belgium team, but are so pivotal in the final third that their absence could leave Italy as heavy favorites to advance. Italy have been in outstanding form in the national scene for a few years now.

Like Belgium, Italy too have won all four matches so far, albeit in extra time in the previous game. Belgium might just hang back and wait for chances on the counter-attack should they lack offensive firepower, which could make this match a slower-paced match across the phases of a soccer pitch.

Stat to note: Belgium have been in sensational form in the Euro Cup. In fact, they have won seven of their last eight matches in this competition, including four games in Euro 2020. Their only loss in this period was a 3-1 defeat to Wales in Euro 2016.

Value Pick: Belgium to qualify (+120)

Safe Pick: Both teams to score: Yes (-106)

Czech Republic vs Denmark

Where: Baki Olimpiya Stadionu, Baku

When: July 3, 12 p.m. ET

How: Czech Republic have beaten Netherlands in one of the best matches of the Round of 16. With an electrifying atmosphere, it was only a matter of time before an error changed the match. A red card to Matthijs De Ligt turned that fixture on its head. Czech Republic kept the pressure on and didn’t let up. Eventually, Czech Republic scored before a Patrick Schick goal ensured Czech Republic would advance in atypically-comfortable fashion.

Denmark didn’t need as much drama and chaos in their match. They cruised past Wales 4-0 in arguably their best football performance of the tournament to set up a quarterfinal clash. Importantly, they played the first match of the Round of 16 on Saturday, while Czech Republic played on Sunday. That additional day of rest could still prove to be pivotal.

Key quote: "We played pretty well in the lead-up to this. We've prepared for this for a long time. The fact that we've played well has made us optimistic. We believed in each other and believe in the team,” Kasper Hjulmand said.

Fun fact: Of the last six matches between these two teams, five have resulted in a draw.

Quick analysis: Denmark have been so impressive at Euro 2020. Their confidence and morale have gone through extremes after losing their first two matches to winning the next two. That will hold them in good stead for a tough match against Czech Republic. Both teams have overcome massive obstacles, both teams have shown their propensity to deal with adversity and both are excellent soccer teams. Even though Denmark are the better team on paper, this might be won by the team that handles the emotional aspect of the game better.

Stat to note: Denmark have lost their last two quarter finals in major international tournaments, which is an incredibly relevant historical record for Czech Republic to consider. Denmark were beaten by Brazil in the 1998 World Cup followed by a defeat to their next opponents Czech Republic in Euro 2004.

Value Pick: 1st goal: Denmark (-134)

Safe Pick: Denmark to qualify (-200)

Ukraine vs England

Where: Stadio Olimpico, Rome.

When: July 3, 3 p.m. ET

How: Ukraine have been sent on some emotional rollercoasters at Euro 2020. You would expect nothing less from a team that does the simple things well and always puts their best foot forward when it comes to handling tough situations. Ukraine overcame Sweden in similar fashion. A red card in extra time for Sweden before a late, late goal ensured Ukraine progressed into the Euro 2020 quarter finals in one of the best matches of the competition, from a neutral perspective.

England, on the other hand, didn’t need an outstanding match against Germany. They just remained solid defensively, as they have right through this competition, and took their chances in the second half on the counter-attack. Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane from almost the same position on the pitch sent Germany crashing out of the competition and the whole of Wembley Stadium into wild raptures.

Key quote: "They are incredibly difficult to score against but their strength shouldn't scare us. It should motivate us because everything is possible in football as in life and we will play our hearts out to give our fans even more to cheer about. England are a great team, they have a deep bench, an outstanding coaching staff and we are fully aware how tough this game is going to be,” Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko said.

Fun fact: England have not yet conceded a goal at Euro 2020. They are only the second team to achieve that feat in the European Championship, after Germany in 2016. The only team to keep a clean sheet in their first five matches of a major international tournament is Italy, which was achieved in the 1990 World Cup.

Quick analysis: England have plenty going for them from a Euro 2020 Quarter Finals betting perspective, including scheduling and home-ground advantage. They have surely earned that luck by performing well, albeit not necessarily to their expected standard, at international tournaments. Ukraine will compete and challenge England but they just do not match up well with England in almost any department. Remember, this is a Euro Cup, so almost any outcome is possible but the chances of an England entry into a semi final of a major international tournament will not be higher for decades to come.

Stat to note: England own the historical head-to-head matchup against Ukraine. They have lost just once to Ukraine in their last seven matches, which was back in October 2009 in a World Cup qualifier. England have also conceded three goals in seven matches against Ukraine across competitions.

Value Pick: Handicap 3-way: England -1 (+125)

Safe Pick: Win/Draw/Win: England (-225)
