Fun fact: Denmark made history by becoming the first team in the history of the European Championship to advance to the knockout stages after losing their first two matches.
Quick analysis: Wales’ gritty style will be up against a resurgent Denmark team that has already been through an emotional tournament. This might be a defensively compact match without too many gaps in the middle of the field.
Stat to note: At 20 years and 353 days, Mikkel Damsgaard became Denmark’s youngest ever goalscorer at a major tournament when he scored in a 4-1 win against Russia.

Stat to note: Italy have played 14 knockout matches at the European Championship. Seven of those have resulted in a draw after 90 minutes.

Netherlands vs Czech Republic
Where: June 27, 12 p.m. ET
When: Puskas Arena, Budapest
How: Netherlands won all three of their matches in the group stage to finish at the top of Group C. Czech Republic finished third in Group D but qualified on account of being in the top four third-ranked teams.
Key quote: “That was the thing that we wanted to do, win all the games in the group, and that’s what happened. It’s a good feeling,” Georginio Wijnaldum said.

Quick analysis: This is arguably the best fixture of the Round of 16. Portugal have fewer days of rest to come up with some exceptional soccer against the top-ranked team in the world. Belgium will rightly start as slight favorites.
Stat to note: Belgium and Portugal have never played each other at a major international tournament: the World Cup or the European Championship.

Fun fact: Spain scored six goals in the group stage. All of those goals were scored by different players, including two own goals.
Quick analysis: Spain came alive against Slovakia, which will provide them with the offensive confidence they needed after two draws. Croatia have sneaked into the Round of 16, and might find the step up in quality too hard to handle.
Stat to note: Croatia have now made the knockout stages of the Euro Cup for the fourth time in six appearances. They have, however, failed to advance to the second knockout game in their last three appearances: quarterfinal in 1996 and 2008 and Round of 16 in 2016.

How: England did not concede a goal in the group stage, which helped the team finish at the top of Group D. Germany made a strong comeback after losing their tournament opener to France. They finished second in the group of death.

Quick analysis: England have home-ground advantage but they will have an onerous defensive task of keeping the high press of Germany out of their goal. The English have knockout jitters and the Germans don’t as is evident in their major tournament success.
Stat to note: The Germans have not kept a clean sheet in their last eight matches at major international tournaments. Their last clean sheet was in a 3-0 win against Slovakia in Euro 2016.

How: Sweden won a seesaw battle against Poland 3-2 to eventually end up winning Group E while Ukraine had to settle for third in Group C after winning just one and losing three matches.

Quick analysis: Sweden’s quick passing, albeit with a high inaccuracy rate, will be key to breaking down a Ukraine defense that can be difficult to get past. Ukraine won’t be easily beaten, with extra time more than just a possibility.
Stat to note: Sweden had the lowest passing accuracy in the group stage of Euro 2020, completing just 69.9 percent of their attempted passes.
