Hammers Have a Chance vs City if Payet Suits up

Manchester City currently resides at the top of the Premier League table with considerations for alphabetical order as they are tied on points and goal differential with their crosstown rivals. City will take on West Ham this Sunday at the Etihad Stadium and will come in as massive favorites.

  • West Ham went unbeaten against Man City last season, winning 2-1 and drawing 2-2.
  • 10 of the last 14 games between these teams have had 3 or more goals.
  • Willy Caballero is expected to start at keeper for Manchester.

West Ham earned their first three points of the season in their last fixture against Bournemouth. The 1-0 win was one they did not dominate. Although they had the majority of the shots, they were out possessed and had fewer shots reach the target. They will have to sharpen up if they hope to beat Pep Guardiola’s City team this weekend.

City looked like a much-improved squad in their last outing against Stoke. Sergio Aguero and Nolito each popped two goals in the 4-1 victory in which Manchester outshot, out possessed and outworked their opponents on their own pitch. City looked terrible in their last Premier League home game against Sunderland but that can probably be chalked up to the new manager adjustment period.

The Hammers’ attack has been anything but dynamic through their first two league matches but a lot of that can be attributed to Dimitri Payet not being in the lineup. The French attacking midfielder is expected to suit up on Sunday and if he does, he will give West Ham the immediate edge in set pieces.

The +900 value being offered on Bovada for the West Ham moneyline right now is pretty hard to turn down. I was blown away when I first saw this line and will probably be taking advantage of the almost 10/1 odds. Keep in mind, Manchester City SHOULD win this game, this is a value play – pure and simple.
