Milan has opportunity to show title credentials in clash with Juventus

They may still be quite a ways off pole position but, under the stewardship of Gennaro Gattuso, there are recent encouraging signs that AC Milan is making its way back to the top. On Sunday, those credentials will be given an almighty test when current Serie A champion and table topper Juventus visits the San Siro looking to maintain the only unbeaten record in the league.

SHARK BITES
  • Milan has won its last three matches in a row.
  • Milan has scored in each of its last five league games.
  • Juventus is unbeaten in 11 matches so far this season.

Milan out to upset the odds

Following a slow start to the season, Milan looks to have found its feet at long last. Those three league wins in a row have helped lift the Rossoneri up to fourth place, just four points behind city rivals Inter in second. Should they make it four wins on the spin at the expense of Juventus this weekend, we just might see them mentioned as possible title contenders over the remainder of the domestic campaign.

Such a feat is far easier said than done, however. Juventus has won 10 of its 11 league contests to date, drawing the other, and sits a comfortable six points ahead of Inter and Napoli, their closest title rivals.

It is therefore of little surprise that it is Juventus that once more comes into a league game as the overwhelming favorite to walk away with the victory. You can back the champions to take all three points at the San Siro at just -118, while Milan, despite that recent upturn in fortunes, is out at +300 to do the same. A draw is priced in the middle at +260.

Milan could edge encounter

Confidence will surely be high in the Milan camp following those three straight wins and we like the odds of the home side catching Juventus unaware and causing a shock. While it is never easy trying to predict the exact scoreline of any game, a narrow 1-0 win for the Rossoneri is priced competitively at +1000 and is certainly worth considering given Milan’s recent domestic form.

That result would then allow you to back UNDER 2.5 goals in the game, which comes in at just -110, as well as a “No” to both teams scoring, which is even shorter at -125. Therefore, to try to increase any potential winnings from this key clash, combo betting could well be the way to go.

For example, a Milan win combined with a “No” to both teams scoring is at the far higher price of +600, while a home win with UNDER 2.5 goals sees the price elevated to +700. You may also bet on the total number of goals in the match, with UNDER two coming in at +250, two or three seeing that price drop to -105, while OVER three shoots back up to +240.

Could we see another fast start?

In Juventus’ 3-1 win over Cagliari this past weekend, the Old Lady raced into the lead less than 60 seconds after the whistle had been blown. While the start at the San Siro may not be quite that rapid, you can still back OVER 0.5 goals in the first 10 minutes at +333, with Juventus at +700 to be ahead within that time and Milan at the higher price of +1100.

As mentioned above, however, we are expecting a close-fought, low-scoring affair and this game is more likely to be won by the odd goal rather than an avalanche. Milan is at +600 to win this game to nil (without Juventus scoring a goal) with the champions at the much shorter +210 to inflict that fate on their hosts.

This is a tough one to call, with Juventus clearly the more technically gifted side. The Turin club has dominated the Serie A landscape in recent years, but they may well have some stiffer competition this season – Milan has a chance to strike a blow where Napoli failed a few weeks ago.
