Stephan El Shaarawy Serie A soccer Bologna vs Roma Betting Odds Preview

AS Roma travels to Bologna in desperate need of three points

The early season has not been kind to Italian giant AS Roma. Despite a relatively straightforward run of domestic fixtures, the club from the capital finds itself in ninth place with just one win thus far. On Sunday, Roma travels to Bologna, which has yet to win a game this season, looking for three vital points that could be the boost its league campaign so desperately needs.

SHARK BITES
  • Roma has scored at least one goal in its last four league games.
  • Roma’s only defeat this season came away from home.
  • Bologna has failed to score in all four of its league matches so far this season.

The perfect opponent for Roma to face?

Having reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League last season, it was largely expected that Roma would push on this season and offer a more stringent challenge to Juventus at the top of the table. So far that has not been the case, with Roma without a win in its last three league outings, picking up just two points in the process. In Bologna, however, they may well have found the perfect opponent.

Bologna is winless, goalless and in danger of being sucked into a relegation dogfight. They have lost both games played on home soil so far, and this would look to be a fantastic opportunity for Roma to get some points on the board.

Roma is an overwhelming favorite to get its second league win of the season. The visitors are at just -150 to record a win on the road, with home side Bologna all the way out at +400 to record its first victory of the campaign. Do not expect it to happen on this occasion, though.

Time for Roma to exert its technical superiority

A quick scan down the roster will tell you that the technical quality at Roma coach Eusebio di Franco’s disposal is far greater than that of former Milan idol Filipo Inzaghi at Bologna. And while it is a tough ask predicting scorelines, Bologna’s woeful start to the season means we like the look of a comfortable 2-0 win for Roma, which is priced at +700.

In their last match against Chievo, Roma was ahead inside 10 minutes thanks to a goal from Stephan El Shaarawy. We expect an early goal here too, and you can back OVER 0.5 goals in the first 10 minutes at a price of +333. Meanwhile, Roma is at +600 to be ahead within that time frame.

El Shaarawy was on the scoresheet last time out and is at +187 to be so again here. However, there is always one man who offers the biggest goal threat for Roma and that is Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko, with the striker at just -110 to net at any time, and +300 to score either the first or last goal of the game.

Bologna facing uphill struggle

Once again Bologna looks to be facing a tough time in front of its own fans. They were defeated 1-0 on their own ground by Spal before Inter dispatched them 3-0 in their last home game and we cannot see the narrative changing here.

We are expecting Roma to win this game to nil (without Bologna scoring a goal), which you can back the visitors to do at a price of +187. Roma is at the short price of -275 to win either half, but you can back them at +150 to score in both halves and at +350 to win both halves.

Eusebio di Franco knows that he will come under increasing pressure in the Roma hot seat if this sluggish start to domestic competition stretches much further beyond September. However, they now come up against an opponent that cannot buy a goal at present and Roma needs to make it count.

Having qualified for the UEFA Champions League once again last season, that will be the minimum requirement this term. Roma is at -150 to finish in the top four come the end of the campaign.
