Two sides struggling for form are set to meet on Saturday in Italy’s Serie A as Fiorentina and AS Roma are set to go head-to-head. The two teams have not won for five matches between them and the Roman side, tipped as an outside challenger for the league title before the season began, is in desperate need of three points if it is to push on and get closer to the top four.
- Fiorentina has not won for three games.
- Fiorentina is unbeaten in its last five home games.
- Roma has taken just one point from its last two league outings.
Fiorentina vs Roma Game Center
This game could be low on technical quality
With both of these sides battling to get three points on the board, this match could be low on technical quality as they scrap for a much-needed victory. Fiorentina has not won for a month, its last victory a 2-0 triumph over Atalanta at the end of September.
By way of comparison, Roma has been doing slightly better, though its last two results have brought mixed emotions. Two games ago they were hugely disappointing in a 2-0 home defeat to lowly Spal, while last time out they conceded a last-minute equalizer to drop two points away to Napoli.
And while the betting is extremely close, it is AS Roma that comes into this match as the slight favorite to get back to winning ways. You can back the visitors to take all three points at +150, while Fiorentina is at +170 to do the same. A draw would look to be the least likely result and is priced accordingly at +240 – and with both teams in need of victory, we are expecting a result one way or the other, rather than a stalemate.
Roma could just edge it
There is no denying the technical quality in this Roma side, despite the losses of goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Kevin Strootman. Their form has lacked consistency over the Sportsbook weeks of the campaign, but this weekend provides a perfect opportunity for them to demonstrate that they belong in the upper echelon of the table.
We expect this game to be won by the odd goal rather than a landslide, and while it can be a tough ask trying to predict exact scorelines, a narrow 2-1 win for Roma is priced competitively at +850. Such a result would thus allow you to also back OVER 2.5 goals in the game, which is priced short at -138, and both teams to score, which is at just -175.
With odds at short prices we therefore believe combo betting would be an efficient way of trying to boost any potential winnings, pairing outcomes rather than relying on singular results. For example, a Roma win and both teams to score is at the much higher price of +333, while an away win coupled with OVER 2.5 goals in the game comes in at +260.
Fiorentina to make fast start?
In their last league outing – a 1-1 draw away to Torino – Fiorentina raced into an early lead through Marco Benassi after only two minutes. We believe a quick start could also be in the cards this weekend, and you can back OVER 0.5 goals in the first 10 minutes at a price of +300 – Fiorentina is at +850 to be ahead within that period, while Roma is slightly shorter at +800.
Should Fiorentina make that quick start, then Roma could well win from behind, something they are priced at +900 to do. They are also at +225 to score in both halves, while the prices are short for both teams to win either half – Fiorentina at -125 and Roma at -138.
This game has the makings of being the most closely contested game of the Serie A weekend. Very little separates Fiorentina and Roma – they have identical league records with Fiorentina only ahead thanks to goal difference.
But we are expecting Roma to show their capabilities on Saturday and record an important win as they look to climb the table. Two or three goals over the course of the 90 minutes, which would seem likely, is priced at +100.
