There is no doubt about the most highly anticipated fixture this coming weekend in the ninth round of action in Italy’s Serie A – the fierce city derby between rivals Inter and AC Milan. With both of these sides hitting form over recent weeks, this could well prove to be a memorable encounter, as Inter looks to leapfrog Napoli in second place and challenge champions Juventus at the top of the table.

Inter looks to have found form at long last
Following a slow start to the season, coach Luciano Spalletti looks to have settled on his best side and shape at long last, and it is paying dividends. Following surprise defeats to Sassuolo and Parma, Inter has now win six games on the bounce, although just one of those wins was by more than a single goal. The club now sits third in the table, with 16 points from eight games.
Meanwhile, rival Milan has seen a similar pattern emerge over the Sportsbook weeks of the campaign, although their recovery has not been quite so dramatic as that of Inter. Nevertheless, under the tutelage of their former player, Gennaro Gattuso, Milan is now unbeaten in its last eight, the most impressive performance during that run a 4-1 demolition of Sassuolo. Milan currently sits 10th in the table and is scoring at an impressive rate of over two goals per game.
And while the betting is close, it is Inter that comes in as the favorite to take the points in this derby clash. You can back Inter to make it seven wins in a row at +130, while Milan is out at +210 to claim bragging rights. A draw would look to be the least likely outcome and is priced accordingly at +225.
A close clash in the cards
Local derby games are usually closely fought affairs and we are expecting nothing different on this occasion. As noted above, five of Inter’s six victories have been by a single goal and, as they are in the better form and have the technically superior squad, we are expecting them to edge this contest as well.
It is of course never easy trying to predict the exact score of a game – which is why the potential rewards are so high – but a narrow 2-1 win for Inter in this game is priced competitively at +800. That in turn would also allow you to back OVER 2.5 goals in the game at -125 and both teams to score, which is also at short odds of -163.
It is therefore worth considering some combo bets to try to increase any potential earnings. For example, an Inter win combined with both teams to score comes in at +333, while an Inter win and OVER 2.5 goals in the game is at the slightly shorter price of +260.
Goals across the game
And while we are expecting Inter to edge the game, the goals are likely to be evenly spread across the 90 minutes. Both Inter and AC Milan scored in both halves of their most recent league wins, and we like the odds of goals in both halves on this occasion as well.
AC Milan is at -120 to win either half, while Inter is at -150 to do the same. You can also back Inter to score in both halves at +225 – just as they managed to do last time out against Spal – while they are at the much higher price of +700 to win both halves.
Given Inter’s narrow recent winning margins, we like the look of Inter winning by a single goal at +300. Out of interest, AC Milan is only slightly higher, at +375, to win by the same margin.
Whatever the outcome, this should well be worth keeping an eye on as two of the fiercest rivals in Italy go head to head. It should be close, but Inter is likely to continue its recent winning streak and could start closing in on Juventus.
