Cristiano Ronaldo Favored to Lead Serie A Scoring Race in 2018-19

Cristiano Ronaldo Juventus Italy Serie A Top Goalscorer Odds

Italian football has seen no shortage of superstar players and prolific goalscorers down the years and with Cristiano Ronaldo entering the fold with Juventus for the 2018-19 Serie A campaign, the race for the top scorer should be an thrilling one.

Ronaldo brings 26 goals in the 2017-18 domestic campaign with Real Madrid to Italy and will compete with the likes of Inter’s Mauro Icardi, Lazio’s Ciro Immobile and new teammate Paulo Dybala among many other top-class players in the race to be the league’s top scorer.

The new Juve player is the oddsmaker’s favorite to be the top goalscorer in Serie A as he is currently -140 at online shop Bovada. While I have no doubt that CR7 will be at or near the top of the goalscoring leaderboard, Serie A is filled with top-level talent and superstar names that will bag tons of goals.

Let’s take a look at a few names that present some value in Serie A top goalscorer betting markets.

Mauro Icardi (+400)

The Inter Milan captain and hitman is coming off his most prolific campaign in Italy which saw him tally 29 goals, drawing him level with Lazio’s Ciro Immoblie in the race for the Capocannoniere.

Icardi has seen a steady increase in his goalscoring the last three season with 16 in 2015-16, 24 in 2016-17 and 29 last season.

The 25-year-old Argentine is entering the peak of his powers and could be in store for a big haul as Inter has improved its squad after returning to Champions League football. The likes of Radja Nainggolan, Matteo Politano and Lautaro Martinez have entered the mix and should improve Inter in the attacking third.

At 4/1, Icardi is a worthy wager and presents some really good value if you’re looking for someone other than CR7.

Ciro Immobile (+1000)

Last year’s joint-Capocannoniere alongside Icardi, it will be a big ask for the Lazio striker to repeat his exploits but it Sergej Milinkovic-Savic sticks around and Luis Alberto repeats his proficiency for an assist, then he could be in store for more goals yet again.

It’s not like last season was a one-off for Immobile. He was the 2013-14 leader with Torino when he banged home 22 goals and he had 23 goals two seasons ago, but his 29 last year are the highest of his career.

Lazio were the highest scoring Serie A team last year with a whopping 89 goals and only Sampdoria conceded more (60) than their 49 in the top 10 and if manager Simone Inzaghi has the same approach to Calcio as we saw last year, there will be more goals in Lazio matches in the upcoming campaign.

The price is good for Immobile at 10/1 but hinges on whether or not the aforementioned Milinkovic-Savic stays in Rome for the upcoming season.

Giovanni Simeone (+5000)

Bit of a longshot here but I love the price on the 23-year-old Fiorentina striker. Simeone banged home 14 goals for the Viola last season and I really like the fact that he will not have European football to worry about this season like Icardi and Immobile do.

Still, while Fiorentina lacks the talent of the Juves, Inters, Romas and Napolis of the world, they do have an improved side, bolstered by some smart front-office management and some good signings in this summer transfer window and this is a club on the rise in Italy.

Playing alongside Simeone will be the incredibly bright prospect Federico Chiesa, the vastly improved Jordan Veretout, the steady Marco Benassi and potentially Gerson, the Brazilian who has just been loaned from Roma, who could potentially find a home with the Tuscan club.

A Capocannoniere for Simeone will be nothing short of miraculous but that’s why the price is where it is. However, he’s still young, Fiorentina will be an improved, competitive side and Simeone’s goalscoring will rise. He’ll be among the top 10 and he will be fun to cheer throughout the season.
