Champion Juventus hosts Lazio in first home game of new season

Ciro Immobile Serie A soccer Juventus vs Lazio Betting Odds Preview

Current Italian league champion Juventus will play its first home game of the new season, welcoming Lazio to Allianz Stadium in Turin. The champions were fortunate to escape Verona with all three points last time out, needing a 93rd-minute goal to edge past Chievo 3-2 and snatch the points.

Lazio, meanwhile, played well in patches during its first-round game against Napoli, but ultimately could not hold on. Having taken the lead, they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat and must now travel to the home of the strongest team in the league still looking to get their first points on the board.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to get off the mark this season.
  • Ciro Immobile has already opened his account in the race for the Golden Boot.
  • Juventus only lost one league game on home soil last season.

Juventus in need of dominant performance on home soil

Believe it or not, the Old Lady will come into this game under slight pressure. They managed to get all three points against Chievo last time out but it was hardly a convincing performance.

The champions fell behind to the relative minnows and looked to be heading for a draw until a 93rd-minute striker from Federico Bernardeschi stole the points for the defending champions. Needless to say, home fans will be expecting to see a more assured performance on Saturday as well as seeing Cristiano Ronaldo get off the mark in black and white stripes.

However, it is worth pointing out that Juventus also looked far from convincing for much of its preseason tour as well. The Old Lady was held to 1-1 draws by both Benfica and an MLS All Stars XI, and their final friendly saw them beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, they come into this game as the clear favorites to take all three points and maintain their 100 per cent start to the season. You can back the champions to wrap up victory at just -275, with Lazio out at +750 to record a shock win in Turin.

And, of course, all eyes will be on Portuguese veteran Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid star is at -175 to score at any time during the game and +220 to net either the first or last goal in the contest.

Lazio still looking to get first points on board

The club from the Italian capital, meanwhile, could well be staring at a second successive defeat to kick off their new season. Having lost 2-1 at home to Napoli last time out, expecting them to get any kind of result at the home of the champions is a tall order indeed.

Lazio does not look capable of challenging for the title but will have set their sights on qualifying for next year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League. With that in mind, they should at least be able to give those at the top of the table a sturdy test, and a draw in this match is priced at +375.

In addition, Lazio has not beaten Juventus in a league match since 2013 and that does not look set to change here. While it is never easy trying to predict the exact scoreline of a match, particularly at the beginning of a season when teams are still trying to find their rhythm, a 2-0 win for Juventus comes in at +550.

For the visitors, their best chance of a goal comes in the form of Ciro Immobile. The Italian striker, who was on the scoresheet last week, is at +187 to net here, and at +650 to open the scoring, as he managed against Napoli.

In terms of technical quality, there is no denying that Juventus has the superior group of players. The pressure is therefore on coach Max Allegri to deliver three points in convincing fashion, with his side at +300 to win by a margin of two, and +500 to win by three goals.

You can also back Juventus to win to nil (without Lazio scoring a goal) at +120. Expect to see the champions kick-start their title defence.
