Italy looks to return to winning ways against Poland in UEFA Nations League

Federico Bernardeschi Italy vs Poland UEFA Nations League soccer betting odds

Poland and Italy are two teams currently struggling for a consistent run of form, but on Sunday they are set to meet in another UEFA Nations League clash, having drawn 1-1 in the tournament last month. Neither side has won a match in the competition to date, with Poland losing 3-2 to Portugal just last week, and a win is now imperative for both sets of players.

SHARK BITES
  • Seven of the 15 games between these two teams have ended in a draw.
  • Italy has conceded in all seven of its most recent fixtures.
  • Both sides have just one point to their name in the UEFA Nations League.

Mancini looking for second win as Italy coach

Having taken on the job of national team coach, Roberto Mancini has just a solitary win against Saudi Arabia to show for his efforts so far. And having only managed a 1-1 draw with Poland on their own turf last month, the Italians’ need for a win has been made all the more difficult now that they are set to play on the road.

Their opponents, by way of comparison, are not in great form themselves and have failed to win any of their last three outings. Poland picked up draws against Italy and Ireland (in a friendly) but their most recent outing saw them lose 3-2 to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

With both sides out of form, the betting is extremely close in this one. Despite being away from home, Italy comes in as a slight favorite at +162 to pick up a much-needed win, with Poland only slightly higher at a price of +175. A draw would look to be the least likely result, and is priced accordingly at +210.

Italy could snatch it

Poland’s confidence, however, must have taken a knock following that defeat to Portugal. The Poles had taken the lead only for Portugal to respond with three goals before the home side netted a consolation strike.

And while we do not believe there will be quite so much goalmouth action in this clash, it should still be worth keeping an eye on. Trying to predict the exact scoreline of a match is never easy, but a 2-1 win for the Italians is priced at +900 and, given their technical quality, may well be worth backing.

Again, that would subsequently allow you to back other outcomes for this contest, such as OVER 2.5 goals in the game, which comes in at +130, while both teams to score is at the shorter price of -120. Always remember that, in terms of potential winnings, combos can be your friend, and a double whammy of an Italy win and both teams to score is priced at +500. Incidentally, a Poland win and both teams to score comes in at the exact same price, showing just how evenly these two teams are matched – on paper, at least.

Very little to separate two teams

Two teams out of form, but with potential match winners, means we have an intriguing contest on our hands. Just to give you an idea of how close this one is, both sides are at +1000 to win from behind, both sides are at +333 to win to nil (without the other team scoring) and both teams are at -120 to win either half.

This is a hugely important game for Poland and Italy, with neither side currently looking capable of buying a win. As mentioned above, Poland threw away the lead to lose to Portugal, while Italy was also held, at home, in a friendly match against Ukraine.

As such, this could be a tense game and we may well see a red card at some point. Italy’s fiery central defender Giorgio Chiellini comes in at the shortest odds, with the Juventus stopper at +4000 to receive his marching orders.

While this encounter may not be the most free-flowing game of football you are ever likely to see, the tension should be palatable. Expect Italy to have the edge in a close encounter, but we are not backing either side to keep a clean sheet on Sunday.
