Without a doubt, one of the surprise packages in Spain’s La Liga so far this season has been Alaves, which finds itself in fourth place, ahead of European champions Real Madrid, as we approach the halfway point in the campaign. On Saturday, Alaves heads to Girona knowing that a win could move them up into third place – temporarily, at least.

Alaves looking to make it three wins in a row
Alaves continues to punch above its weight this season and, while the team may not be considered a genuine title contender, it is certainly capable of challenging for a place in the top four and a spot in next season’s edition of the UEFA Champions League.
The side is just two points behind Sevilla, having won half of its games this term. One worry, however, would be the lack of goals scored, and if they are to continue fighting in the upper echelons of the table, then their strike rate simply must improve.
Following a promising start to the season, Girona now looks to be on a downward spiral. The club remains in the top half of the table but is without a win in five league outings, and the slide must be arrested as soon as possible if they are not to continue slipping down the standings.
With home advantage, Girona comes into this match as the favorite to get back to winning ways. You can back the home side to take all three points at +125, while Alaves is out at +260 to do the same. A draw is priced in the middle at +210.
Alaves should edge close encounter
We are not expecting a huge number of goals in this one, but the more consistent form of the visitors should carry them through the game and deliver a vital three points in their quest to remain in the top four. It is of course never an easy task trying to predict the exact scoreline of a football match, but a narrow 1-0 win for the visitors comes in at +700, and may well be worth backing given the recent form of both sides.
