Sevilla out to try to regain top spot in La Liga away to Valencia

One of the most in-form teams in Spain’s La Liga right now, Sevilla will try to regain top spot on Saturday when the squad travels to take on an out-of-sorts Valencia outfit. Valencia finds itself languishing in the bottom half of the table and will have their work cut out for them if they are to salvage anything from a rampant Sevilla side.

SHARK BITES
  • Valencia has won two of its last three league outings.
  • Sevilla is unbeaten in its last five La Liga encounters.
  • Sevilla has won 13 of the last 26 meetings between these teams.

Valencia could struggle again

This has been a season to forget for Valencia so far and it does not look like it is getting better any time soon. The side has won just three games all season and now comes up against a team that is defying expectations to challenge for the title.

Valencia lost to Real Madrid last time out, but victories over both Getafe and Rayo Vallecano helped drag the team away from the relegation zone. It has given the fans hope that the springboard is now in place for Valencia to start climbing the table.

Whether that will happen this weekend is another matter entirely, however. Sevilla has won three of its last five, drawing the other two, and sits just a point behind league champion and current table topper Barcelona.

Nevertheless, it is Valencia that comes into this game as the favorite to take all three points in this one. You can back the home side to pick up the win at +130 while Sevilla, despite its impressive recent form, is out at +220 to do the same. A draw comes in highest of all at +230.

Sevilla could edge close encounter

And while this match is likely to be a close encounter, we are expecting Sevilla to extend its recent unbeaten run, take the points and dislodge Barcelona from its perch at the top of the tree – temporarily, at least, with Barça not playing until later on the same day. It can be a thankless task trying to predict the exact scoreline in a football match, but a narrow 1-0 win for Sevilla is priced competitively at +1000, and could well be worth backing given the recent form of both sides.

Such a result would also allow you to back UNDER 2.5 goals in the game, which is priced short at -110, and a “No” to both teams scoring, which comes in at +110. However, you could increase those winnings further by playing combo bets, which allow you to select multiple outcomes on the same game at higher odds.

For example, a combo bet of a Sevilla win coupled with a “No” to both teams scoring is at the much higher price of +500, while an away victory and UNDER 2.5 goals in the game is higher still, at +650. UNDER 2.5 goals and a “No” to both teams scoring is at +150.

Valencia woes likely to continue

As mentioned above, this should be a close contest – after all, there is precious little to separate these two sides on paper. But there can be no doubt that Sevilla will be coming into the game in better form, with confidence levels higher, and that should ultimately make a telling difference.

For that reason, we believe that Sevilla could win this game to nil (without Valencia scoring a goal), an outcome you can back at a price of +500. In addition, the visitors are at +100 to win either half, while you can back them at +333 to score in both halves.

But who will score those precious goals? For Sevilla, Andre Silva has been in excellent form of late, and you can back the striker to net at any time at +175, while he is at +550 to score either the first or the last goal of the game.

Sevilla faces another big test of their title credentials. This may not be a game that will linger long in the memory, but it is one that should help the visitors on their way just a little further.
