Odds to Win Liga MX Apertura: Santos Edges America

Liga MX Betting Odds Santos America

Against all odds. That sums up what Santos Laguna has achieved in this year’s Liga MX Apertura. At the start of the season, no one seemed to bet on Los Guerreros. But with only one more round left, coach Guillermo Almada’s side’s No. 1 spot cannot be threatened by Necaxa or America as they are both five points behind. That makes the Torreón-based club the favorite at online sportsbook Bovada to lift the Apertura trophy in the playoffs.

So should you put your money on them or on Club America, Mexico’s record winners with 13 titles?

Santos Laguna: Deadly Duo up Front

Last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Cruz Azul was a testament to Santos’ sound playing this season. With a deadly South American striker duo consisting of Brian Lozano and Julio Furch, who share 18 goals between them, the Verdiblancos hold an impressive 8-1-0 home record. This makes them the favorites to win the Apertura at +300 odds.

Las Aguilas Follow Behind Santos

Tied with second-placed Necaxa at 31 points, though with one less win, putting them third in the standings, Club America, last year’s Campeon de Campeones victors, thrashed Veracruz 5-0 in the last matchday. Always a force to be reckoned with, Giovani Santos and Guillermo Ochoa’s Las Aguilas are oddsmakers’ second choice to claim the Apertura at +350 odds.

Tigres: From Favorites to Third Choice

After securing the Clausura 2019, and with quality players like Aquino, Damm and striker Gignac, with nine goals, Tigres deservedly came in as the main contenders to win the championship. With an uneven season, however, they are just fifth in the standings. That being said, their recent track record puts them in third to win the Apertura, priced at +400.

Rounding out the top four most likely to go all the way is Necaxa. Los Rayos enter the last matchday coming off a 2-0 win over Atletico San Luis, when their forward and the tournament’s top scorer, Mauro Quiroga, netted his 12th goal of the season. They are tied with Club Leon at +700 to lift their first league trophy since the Clausura 2018.
