PSG, the defending champions in France’s Ligue 1, have made a perfect start to the defence of their domestic league crown. With five wins in as many games and 17 goals scored already, the champions travel to take on a Rennes side which is struggling for consistency in the Sportsbook weeks of the campaign but has looked strong when playing in front of their own fans.

That seems to be the question on most people’s lips after the blistering start to the new season that defending league champion PSG has made. Five wins, 17 goals scored and just four conceded – it seems right now that no one can stop the juggernaut that PSG has become.
Well, no one domestically, at least. The UEFA Champions League is a different story altogether, with PSG losing a thrilling game 3-2 away to Liverpool this past week. Ligue 1, however, is starting to resemble something of a procession.
Unsurprisingly, it is visiting PSG that comes in as the favorite to make it six league wins in a row at the start of the new season. The club from the French capital is at -275 to wrap up the points with Rennes, despite home advantage and having won their last two league encounters on their own patch, out at +700 to make it a hat trick of home victories. A draw is priced in the middle, at +375, but betting on anything other than a PSG victory would appear foolish at best.
Goals, goals and more goals
As always, the golden rule of betting is the more specific your bets, the higher those potential rewards become. And seeing as a simple bet on PSG to win will not get you too far on this occasion, it’s best to have a more in-depth look at the game and see where you should be investing your money.
For example, PSG is scoring goals at an impressive rate of 3.4 goals per game and we can safely assume that more goals are likely to be in the cards here. And while it is never easy trying to predict the exact outcome of any given game, a 3-0 win for PSG is priced competitively at +900.
That would also mean you can back OVER 2.5 goals in the game, which comes in at -188, while a “No” to both teams scoring is at +100. PSG is conceding goals in Ligue 1 at a rate of just 0.8 goals per game, and despite Rennes’ strong performances in its own stadium so far, the pairing of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos should be competent enough to keep them at bay on Sunday afternoon.

For that very reason, we also believe that backing PSG to win to nil (without Rennes scoring a goal) is also a safe bet to make, with that outcome priced at +140. In addition, you can back PSG to score in both halves at -110 and to win both halves at the slightly higher price of +200.
Kylian Mbappe was on the scoresheet in PSG’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool this past Tuesday night and will be in the hunt for more goals this weekend. The teenage star is at just -110 to get his name on the scoresheet at any time during the game, while you can back Mbappe at +375 to score either the first or last goal of the game.
But it is not just Mbappe who the Rennes defence will have to concern themselves with. Edinson Cavani is one of the deadliest finishers on the planet and was on the scoresheet in the side’s 4-0 thrashing of St. Etienne in their last league outing. He is at -200 to score in this clash, as is Brazilian superstar Neymar. It looks like being a long, chastening afternoon for Rennes and their supporters.
