Jurgen Klopp Liverpool Europa League

Liverpool saved some of their best defensive football of the season for Jurgen Klopp’s return to Dortmund as the Reds came out with a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal matchup versus Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Shark Bites
  • Liverpool has not lost a match in Europa League this season (4 W, 7 D).
  • The last six Liverpool games in Europa League have been UNDER 2.5 goals.
  • Dortmund has seven wins and two draws in their last nine away games (all competitions).

Liverpool is presently +200 in moneyline markets at online book Bet365 while the travelling German side is +140 and the Draw is +260. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 2.5 goals is currently -133 while UNDER 2.5 goals is +105.

Divock Origi scored for Liverpool in the 36th minute before Mats Hummels equalized in the 48th minute in Germany one week ago. The Reds were able to withstand Dortmund’s subsequent assault for the bulk of the game as the German club had 59.6 percent of the ball, took 16 shots, completed 85 percent of their passes and won the corner battle five to one.

The Reds have struggled domestically but are coming off a 4-1 win over Stoke City in their last game. The club sits eighth in the table and is five point back of the European spots and have a couple of games in hand.

Meanwhile, Dortmund is cruising toward a second-place finish in the Bundesliga and is seven points back of Bayern Munich in the table. The club has not lost since December 19 (all competitions) but is coming off a 2-2 draw versus rivals Schalke.

Dortmund rested players in the Schalke fixture and will be firing on all cylinders to ensure a victory in England. Considering a tournament win is basically Liverpool’s only ticket to European football next season, the Reds should up to the challenge in what will prove to be an intense affair at Anfield.
