Northern Ireland Make Debut Vs Poland

Despite having reached the World Cup group stages on three occasions, this will be Northern Ireland’s first appearance at a Euro competition. Their Sportsbook match is a very tough one, which pits them up against dark horse Poland in Group C. In a very successful qualification campaign, the sides only suffered 2 losses between them.

  • Northern Ireland have reached the World Cup quarter finals twice (1958, 1982).
  • Poland were the top scorers in qualifying with an impressive 33 goals.
  • The Poles have failed to win a game at the Euros, this being their third finals.

Poland are clear favourites to win at -145 with N.I at +450 and a draw being at +260 according to Sportsbook. In terms of the spread, the Poles are -1(+125) and the debutants are +1(-155).

Both of these nations enjoyed tremendous qualifying campaigns and surprised everyone for different reasons. Poland were drawn in to a devilishly tricky group containing World Champions Germany, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland. Most expected them to qualify from the group, but the manner in which they did was very impressive.

On the other hand, not many people outside of Northern Ireland had big expectations for the small nation, but they were mesmerising during qualifying, easily reaching the final stages. Now in the big time, can N.I replicate that form when it counts?
