Pep and Jose to Renew Rivalry at Manchester Derby

The first game on the Premier League docket this weekend just so happens to be the first Manchester Derby of the season as City crosses into enemy territory to take on United at Old Trafford. There will be some extra fuel poured on this already crackling fire as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola renew their heated and storied rivalry.

  • City and United are 2 of only 3 teams left that are perfect to start the season.
  • United is unbeaten in the last three Manchester Derbies.
  • The two contests between these teams last season saw just one total goal scored.

Pep and Jose’s rivalry goes back to their days managing Spanish clubs and reached its climax when the two managed Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively. Both of their new clubs are performing brilliantly to start the young Premier League season so we should be in for a classic.

Man United has been excellent through its first three games as they’ve gotten wins from Bournemouth, Hull City and Southampton. Man City, however, will offer United a level of competition they have not yet seen and their leaky backline could be exposed for the first time this season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is tied with Sergio Aguero for the league lead in goals scored with three and the big Swede has proved many wrong that his game wouldn’t translate to the English style.

City has scored the most goals of any team in the top flight this season but has allowed the most of any squads currently in the top third of the table. Aguero is one of the three City players in the top five in EPL goal scoring right now as he, Nolito and Raheem Sterling have accounted for seven of City’s nine goals so far.

Bovada has lines up for the contest and has United as the +125 favorite with City coming back at +220. Although these teams combined for just one goal in 180 minutes last season, they both had off years. The OVER/UNDER in this one is 2.5 and there’s some value on the OVER at +110.
