Premier League 2016-17 Props: Relegation Odds

Another Premier League season is on the horizon and with Newcastle playing their footy in the Championship division this year, mid table teams in England’s top division may be worried. Online shops have released odds on who will be relegated from the Premier League this year along with a bounty of other interesting props.

Bovada has unsurprisingly tagged the three most recently promoted teams Burnley (-125), Hull City (-110) and Middlesbrough (+125) as the favorites to be relegated this season after Newcastle, Norwich and Aston Villa got the boot last season.

Burnley and Hull are both back in the Premier League after only one season in the Championship but are tied right now for the best odds (+350) to finish bottom of the table this year. According to the math, Burnley, Hull and Middlesbrough have a 42.6% chance of being relegated this season as 29 out of 68 teams – since the 1992-93 season – that were promoted from the Champions division were immediately demoted the following year.

If you’re looking for some value, it could very well come from any team that finished between 15 and 17 in 2015-16, as this is the range that produced two-thirds of last season’s relegated teams (Newcastle was 15 in 2014-15 and Aston Villa was 17 in 2014-15). Teams that fell in that range last season were Crystal Palace (+400), Bournemouth (+275) and Sunderland (+250).
