We potentially got our game of the year in Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Manchester City last weekend and now the Citizens will look to rebound from their first loss of the campaign with Newcastle paying a visit to the Etihad in Saturday’s finale.
While there aren’t a ton of sexy matchups on the Gameweek 24 board, there is plenty of betting value. Some potential upsets loom with Crystal Palace at Arsenal and Burnley hosting Manchester United, plus Stoke gets new life under new manager Paul Lambert with the Potters hosting Huddersfield.
As always, Rob Trites and Andrew Avery are here to make their favorite picks on this weekend’s board. One side, one total and one prop each with odds coming courtesy online shop Bovada.
Andrew: Leicester City (-125)
The Foxes turned things around at the end of November, rattling off four straight wins in the league from November 28 through December 13. Admittedly, they haven’t been at their best more recently with just one win in their last five, but that should change this weekend.
Watford has been AWFUL for a massive stretch as the club has managed just five points from a possible 30 in their last 10 in the league. So this is as much a fade as it is loving Leicester.
Rob: Tottenham -1 (+110)
Tottenham not only survived during a jammed holiday season, they thrived, grabbing 13 points out of a possible 15 over the course of their last five Premier League fixtures.
Southampton, on the other hand, is a mess. Mauricio Pellegrino has been out-managed in nearly every match his team has played since the end of November and I’m not so sure he’s going to right the ship against the rounding into form Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs roll to an easy three points in Sunday’s lone fixture and beat the Saints by at least two goals, something they’ve done in six of their last eight EPL games.
Andrew: Manchester City-Newcastle OVER 3.5 (-130)
Chalky price for a high total, but I’m willing to pay it. I expect Pep’s side to be out for blood after suffering the first defeat of the season in a 4-3 thriller against Liverpool one week ago.
Newcastle has strung together some positive results of late and actually held their own against City in the reverse fixture, but I suspect the Citizens get back to their old, dominant ways in Saturday’s contest.
Rob: Arsenal-Crystal Palace OVER 3 (-110)
Easy money. Arsenal can’t defend worth a damn and Palace has been much better of late. While I fully expect the Gunners to move forward well and bag a few of their own, the Eagles have been up for it since their surprising draw with Man City. I think they have enough up top to break through at the Emirates.
Andrew: Riyad Mahrez to score any time (+200)
I picked Mahrez in this spot before and he let me down (like many before and after, if I’m being brutally honest here). The thing is, Mahrez just scores against Watford. In fact, the tricky Algerian has scored in four straight Premier League matches against the Hornets and at +200 I’ll hop all over it.
Rob: Harry Kane first goal scorer (+260)
I really wanted a Kane to score and Spurs to win prop but I couldn’t find one, so this will have to do.
Harry is a man on fire right now, scoring 10 goals in his last six matches in all competitions. He bagged a hat trick when he met the Saints the day after Christmas and at this rate, he could do it again on Sunday.
+260 isn’t awe-inspiring value for this prop but considering Kane’s form, it’s an absolute must-bet.
