2019-20 Premier League: Player Total Goals Scored OVER/UNDERs

With the 2019-20 Premier League season rapidly approaching, more and more odds are hitting the board at a shop near you. Last week we saw the release of season goal totals for a number of Premier League star players.

Online shop Sportsbook has released goalscoring OVER/UNDERs for 18 Premier League attackers and while there are certainly some tough numbers on the board, there are a few that look very appealing from a betting perspective.

First, let’s take a second and look back at last season before we look forward to 2019-20. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané finished in a three-way tie for the Golden Boot with 22 goals. Sergio Agüero finished with 21 for Premier League champion Manchester City while Leicester’s Jamie Vardy rounded out the top five with 18 goals.

The 22 goals was the lowest top-scoring mark in the league since Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez topped the league with 20 apiece in 2010-11.

With one week to go in July, here are a couple of bets from this market that I’ve got my eye on entering the season.

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham): OVER 11.5

Tottenham’s 27-year-old South Korean dynamo continued his impressive play in North London and has been scoring big goals since coming over from Leverkusen for the 2015-16 season. The truth is, however, that Sonny has had a penchant for scoring goals, big or otherwise, since his teenage days for Hamburg.

Son has eclipsed the 11.5 number on the board in three straight seasons with his highest haul in England coming in 2016-17 when he banged home 14.

One thing Son does well is score in bunches, which makes him a fantastic candidate in “to score anytime” markets. From November 24 through February 10, a span of 14 league games, Son scored 11 of his 12 goals.

Son scored one goal every 170 minutes last season while in 2017-18 he scored one every 192 minutes. But his best return is still the 2016-17 season when he scored one every 148 minutes.

So, if the Korean can keep that pace of basically scoring once every two full 90-minute games, I think OVER 11.5 is well within reach.

Tottenham is very flexible tactically and whether Mauricio Pochettino lines up in a 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, 4-4-2 diamond, etc., there is always a spot for Sonny in the XI.

Should be noted here that Son is slated to miss the first couple of games of the season (vs Aston Villa, at Manchester City) due to a straight red card against Bournemouth in the penultimate game last season.

Richarlison (Everton): OVER 10.5

Richarlison’s first season with Everton was a very good one as the Brazilian notched 13 goals in league play in 2018-19. Furthermore, he got off to a flying start with a brace in his first game against Wolves and then followed that up with a third goal against Southampton in the second game of the season.

I posted these odds on Twitter and someone wisely pointed out that “Everton need to find some goals” and while that is true, especially with Everton having not really addressed that in the transfer window as of yet, I think Richarlison easily breaks this number as he becomes a more talismanic figure at Goodison Park.

Richarlison was tied with Gylfi Sigurdsson for the team lead in goals with 13 while young forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin notched six and Theo Walcott contributed five to round out Everton’s top four.

Striker Cenk Tosun has yet to really make his mark at Everton after scoring just three in 25 Premier League appearances, so the pressure is really on Richarlison to find the back of the net.

He’s young, tricky, skilled and is a quality finisher so OVER 10.5 is a very attractive number for a young star who really made an impression in his first season with the Toffees.
