Roma in Tough with Real Madrid in Town

Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid Champions League

Two clubs that have advanced to the Round of 16 in the Champions League and have undergone managerial changes since are set to square off in the Eternal City as Real Madrid visits Roma Wednesday.

Shark Bites
  • Real Madrid is unbeaten in its last nine contests in La Liga.
  • Real Madrid outscored its opponents 19-3 in the Group Stage.
  • Roma’s -5 goal differential in the Group Stage is the worst of any club left.

At online book Bovada, Roma is +320 in moneyline markets with Real Madrid -125 and the Draw +285. As for the total, OVER 3 goals is EVEN and UNDER 3 goals is -125.

Roma has enjoyed a great run of form recently as the Giallorossi have won four-straight Serie A matches heading into their Round of 16 Champions League contest versus Real. The club has performed better with Luciano Spaletti returning to manage the side and is coming off a 3-1 win over Carpi in domestic action.

Speaking of managerial changes, the legendary Zinedine Zidane was appointed Real Madrid manager on January 4 and the side has won five, drawn one and lost zero in Zidane’s six games in charge of Los Blancos (all La Liga fixtures). Real has really found its scoring touch under Zizou as the club has tallied 23 goals in those six contests.

The Group Stage was not a great one for Roma as they mustered just six points and allowed 16 goals in six matches, including six to Barcelona on November 24. If they hope to recapture the magic of the 2008 Champions League campaign – the last time the club advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to a win over Real in the Round of 16 – they’ll have to stop a Madrid side that is scoring at will under its new boss.
