Spurs Desperate to Return to Win Column

Toby Alderweireld Tottenham Hotspur Premier League

This time two weeks ago, many were talking about a Premier League title for Tottenham Hotspur. After taking just one point from a possible six in their past two games, the title rumblings have tapered a bit. Still, Tottenham is right in the thick of things but a three-point haul at lowly Aston Villa is pretty much a must.

  • Tottenham won the reverse fixture 3-1 at White Hart Lane back on November 2.
  • Tottenham has outscored Villa 8-1 in the last three meetings at Villa Park.
  • There has been OVER 2.5 goals in Villa’s last four Premier League games.

Tottenham is presently -200 in moneyline markets at online book Bet365 while Villa is +650 and the Draw is +350. The total is tabbed at 2.5 with both OVER and UNDER priced at -111.

Spurs were in control one man up and leading 2-1 against bitter-rivals Arsenal last weekend but Alexis Sanchez stuck a dagger through the hearts of Spurs fans as he equalized late in the game. The game finished a draw and both London clubs found themselves further back of league leaders Leicester City.

Now, Tottenham travels to face an Aston Villa side that is relegation bound and has lost four Premier League games on the bouce. “Lost” is putting it lightly, however, as the Villains have been routinely hammered and have been outscored 15-2 in those four losses. Manchester City was the most recent to lay a beating on Villa as they triumphed 4-0 last weekend.

The North London club has hit its worst stretch of the season with a loss to West Ham, draw with Arsenal and a 3-0 thumping to Borussia Dortmund in Germany midweek in its last three outings. A return to form is imperative at this point of the season if Tottenham has any Premier League aspirations.
