France are the away favorite in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying tie with Ukraine, but Kiev is a very tough place for opponents to come away with a win.

Ukraine almost beat out England to win their group, but a costly 1-0 loss to Montenegro killed their chances and that loss may haunt them.

France was expected to come in second in their group, which they did behind 2010 World Cup champion Spain.

France is the favorite midweek at Bet365 at +140 with Ukraine at +200 and a draw line of +220. See the France vs Ukraine matchup report and trends here.

Yevhen Konoplyanka and Yevhen Khacherid each had three goals apiece in qualifying and Ukraine is a squad that can create scoring chances from all over the pitch.

The French back four of Gael Clichy, Laurent Koscielny, Eric Abidal, and Bacary Sagna were little dicey in giving up two goals to Belarus in their last qualifying match. They have to shore up the back line and not be jarred by the more than hostile crowd.

Franck Ribery, Olivier Giroud and Samir Nasri are all great playmakers for the French squad, who must control the midfield. If they can do that France should leave Kiev with a win.

Ukraine did not play in a very tough group, but in their last five qualifying matches they did not concede a goal and that includes a 0-0 home draw with England.
