Lucky Super Contest Winner Will Take Home Record $1.3-Million Top Prize

Bigger and better than ever, the world’s largest NFL handicapping contest – the Super Contest at the Westgate SuperBook – will award a little more than $1.3 million to the entrant who finishes in first place in 2017. A record 2,748 entries will compete for that prize, including 25 members of Team OddsShark, which is back for a fourth year.

Defending champion Frank Schwab edged Anthony Riccobono and Mike Cole by a half-point for first in the group a year ago, and he is looking to become the first repeat winner in team history. Schwab’s alias Shutdown Corner finished with 46 points last season while Riccobono and Cole each had 45.5. Overall winner Damon Graham won nearly $900,000 in 2016 with 55.5 points for his POPS2008 entry that went 5-0 in Week 17.

The Top 5 Consensus NFL Picks were released following the deadline on Saturday, and the team selected the most for Week 1 was the Cincinnati Bengals as 2.5-point home favorites hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals were picked 866 times by contestants, and they were also a popular play by the team. Seven members of the group chose Cincinnati among their five picks, including Schwab and Riccobono.

The second-most popular pick by entrants in the Super Contest overall was the Houston Texans as 5-point home favorites hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans were picked 863 times, and they have gone an impressive 10-1 straight up and 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 games versus AFC South opponents, according to the OddsShark NFL Database. Nine Team OddsShark members chose Houston as well.

Rounding out the Top 5 are the Tennessee Titans (picked 839 times), Atlanta Falcons (819) and Arizona Cardinals (742). The Titans are the third home favorite at -2.5 against the Oakland Raiders while the Falcons (-6.5) and Cardinals (-2) are both listed as road chalk visiting the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions, respectively. Arizona has won the past seven meetings with Detroit, but Chicago has owned Atlanta recently with a 10-3 SU record in the last 13 games between them and an 8-2 ATS mark in the previous 10.
