Push Keeps Team OS Leader Schalter From Cracking Top 10 in Super Contest

In the sports world, they say a tie is like kissing your sister. But when it comes to sports betting, that would be putting it nicely, as a push is viewed more like costing a win than avoiding a loss. Week 15 of the NFL season saw most of the record field of 2,748 entrants in the Super Contest walk away with at least one push worth a half-point while many had two or more, with three of the 16 games landing right on the number.

Ty Schalter regained sole possession of first place atop the Team OddsShark leaderboard heading into Week 16 thanks to a near-perfect 4-0-1 mark, as the Dallas Cowboys (-3) were one of the three pushes in a 20-17 road win over the Oakland Raiders. For Schalter, picking up the half-point for 48 total should be viewed as a good thing considering the Raiders were driving for the game-tying or game-winning score until quarterback Derek Carr fumbled out of the end zone in the final minute. However, picking up a full point would have tied Schalter for 10th overall rather than 12th.

Last week’s co-leader Paulo Antunes is right behind Schalter with 47 points after going 3-1-1, including a push on the New England Patriots (-3), who held on for a 27-24 road victory vs the Pittsburgh Steelers following a controversial ending. Again, Antunes should feel fortunate to get the half-point, as the Steelers were driving for the game-tying or game-winning score until quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception after a touchdown was overturned, and he did not spike the ball for a field-goal attempt.

Some members of the team were not so lucky, with last year’s champion Frank Schwab going 3-0-2 and five others also earning two or more pushes in Week 15. Ryan Fowler somehow managed to end up 1-1-3 as one of 108 contestants overall who picked all three games that resulted in pushes. In fact, only three of the 25 team members avoided a push altogether, most notably UFC ring girl Jhenny Andrade, who went 5-0. Andrade has gone 4-1 or better five times now in 15 weeks, although that was her first perfect record. Mike Cole and Dan Lyons also did not have a push as both went 3-2.
