Super Computer Week 12 Contest Picks

The scientists and number crunchers are racking their brain trying to fix the calibrations for the OddsShark Super Computer with the machine going a mere 3-11-1 in the past three weeks.

If the ‘gut’ feeling of human intervention is your thing, Team OddsShark members David Fucillo of SBNation and Clay Travis of Fox Sports also break down some of their top picks for Week 12 in the video above.

Texans (-3) Hosting the Saints

The Texans are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now. Houston has won three-straight games thanks to their defense. The Texans have allowed a combined 29 points in their last three games and have only allowed 244.7 yards per game.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees has struggled on the road this season with the veteran throwing almost as many interceptions (5) as touchdowns (6) away from New Orleans. Brees’ passer rating also drops from 115.2 at home to 83.7 on the road.

Buccaneers (+3.5) Hosting the Colts

Has Jameis Winston turned the corner on a mediocre rookie season? Winston entered his Week 11 game vs the Eagles with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions to his name, but ended the day with five touchdown passes, which tied a rookie record. In Week 12 Winston and company should be able to capitalize on a Colts defense that’s allowing the sixth most yards per game. The Colts also rank near the bottom of the league is rushing yards allowed and will have to deal with Doug Martin, who’s fresh off a 235 yard performance in Week 11.

The Colts have struggled at home this season, winning just two of five games at Lucas Oil Stadium. And let’s get serious, the wheels are about to fall off of the Matt Hasselbeck wagon. He threw two picks last week and the surging Tampa defense has been feasting on backup quarterbacks. The last two weeks against Matt Cassel and Mark Sanchez, they’ve picked up five interceptions and five sacks while only allowing 23 total points.

Chiefs (-6.5) Hosting the Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs looked to be dead in the water a month and a half into the NFL season but have since found new life. K.C. has won and covered the spread in four straight heading into Week 12’s home matchup with the Buffalo Bills.

Arrowhead Stadium has always been tough on opposing teams and this game should be no different. The Chiefs have made life easy on their bettors recently, winning by an average of 23 points in the aforementioned winning streak.

It’s tough to predict what you’re going to get out of the Bills this season as they’ve been far from the model of consistency, which means riding the hot hand in this game looks like the smart play even if it means laying the chalk.

Jaguars (-4) Hosting the Chargers

The Jaguars offense has been getting all of the press with the young guns quickly developing into one of the most promising passing attacks in football, but their defense has started to get themselves composed over the past two games. The Jags only allowed an average of 16.5 points per game while recording five turnovers.

The Chargers are -7 in turnover differential this year, tying them for the 28th worst mark in the NFL. The Chargers also allow the second most yards per completion in the league, meaning it could be a big day for the Jags receivers.

Broncos (+3) Hosting the Patriots

The Broncos were 7-2 with the atrocity that is Peyton Manning starting at quarterback, so it goes to stand that even if Brock Osweiler is competent then Denver should be okay. Osweiler looked good in his first start last week, albeit against the terrible Bears secondary, with 250 passing yards and two touchdowns.

If there's any key to slowing down the golden god that is Tom Brady, it is pressuring him. The Broncos lead the NFL in sacks with five player registering three or more sacks on the season already.
