Super Contest Week 4 Computer Picks

Is it uncool to start whining about bad beats so early in the season?

As the Odds Shark computer sustained a third straight painful 2-3 week in the prestigious Westgate SuperContest, the challenge of climbing back into contention is becoming clear.

We can barely see Team Odds Shark partner Todd Fuhrman way up there in first place at 14-1, the computer is so far down the ladder.

The computer had its third straight winning week overall at 8-7-1 ATS and is 32-16 SU in three topsy-turvy weeks. But we keep picking the wrong winners for the contest.

The computer was in line for a 5-0 ATS week until Washington snuck a back-door cover on the Eagles at -6.5 and after the Seahawks scored in OT to ruin the Broncos +5 pick. There were so many scenarios where that pick was successful and only one where it failed.

Let’s not forget the Rams at +1.5 leading 21-0 against Dallas and blowing the game.

Regardless, Team Odds Shark members Fuhrman (4-1 on the week and narrowly missing a third perfect week when the Bears covered the Jets on Monday night) fared better. Erin Sharoni was 4-1, while Nick Kostos went 3-2 to remain in the race.

And pledging to finally pick five winners, the Odds Shark computer makes the following predictions.

Eagles +5.5 at San Francisco – computer says 33-30 Philly

We don’t buy the computer’s story that the Eagles will inflict a third straight loss on the Niners. It was 2010 and before this recent 49ers excellence that the team lost three in a row.

But the computer apparently likes Philly’s resiliency so far this season and the fact the Eagles are 5-1 SU in the past six meetings and the fact the Niners are just 1-4 ATS at home recently. Matchup Report

Steelers -7.5 vs Tampa Bay – computer says 28-15 Pittsburgh

The second biggest rout of the week will be the Steelers over the Bucs, if the computer is right and this line has climbed during the week. The Bucs were atrocious in losing to Atlanta but had 10 days to practise. The Steelers are good, not great and the computer is comfortable with the spread here. Matchup Report

Falcons -3 at Minnesota – computer says 26-22 Atlanta

Were the Falcons that good or the Bucs that bad last Thursday as the score opened at 49-0? Whatever the case, the Falcons lay just three points here and the computer generously is giving the Vikes 22 points. We think it will be less and this game won’t be as close as the computer says. Regardless, it’s a Falcons cover. Matchup Report

Saints -3 at Dallas – computer says 26-21 New Orleans

Who would you trust to win three games in a row – Drew Brees or Tony Romo? Exactly. We cringe here at the 0-6 ATS road run of the Saints, but they have won and covered 8 of 10 against Dallas, who should have been crushed by a bad Rams team last week but escaped. Matchup Report

Patriots -3.5 at Kansas City (MNF) – computer says 32-27 New England

The Pats haven’t been great, the Chiefs have been erratic and we don’t like the hook here at -3.5. But New England has superior talent and the computer sees them eking out a victory. We think it will be more one-sided and a safe cover as the Chiefs extend their 0-6 ATS against AFC East teams and the Pats extend their 7-3 ATS run in games vs KC. Matchup Report
