SuperContest: Seahawks Big Week 14

Last week, the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) were the least selected top consensus pick of the season, chosen 484 times in the SuperContest at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

This week, the Seahawks nearly doubled that number in becoming the most highly selected team of all-time, picked by a record 962 of the 1,727 contestants (56 percent) in the field.

Seattle was listed as a 6.5-point road favorite visiting the Baltimore Ravens (4-8) on the Week 14 SuperContest Card. But the Ravens are expected to start Jimmy Clausen at quarterback on Sunday and had moved up to 12-point home underdogs as of Saturday afternoon according to NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

The previous SuperContest record for top consensus pick was set in Week 7 when the New York Jets (7-5) were selected 854 times as 9-point road underdogs against the New England Patriots (10-2).

The Jets ended up covering the spread on a Nick Folk 55-yard field goal with 18 seconds remaining in a 30-23 loss at New England. Before that, the Patriots and Carolina Panthers (12-0) had taken turns as the most selected team ever in Weeks 3 and 6, respectively.

Team OddsShark Backs Seahawks As Well

Team OddsShark agreed with the Seahawks as their top pick as well, with 14 of the 21 members (67 percent) choosing them. The Denver Broncos (10-2) have been the group’s top selection each of the past two weeks, coming through by covering the spread both times.

Seattle tied the group record set two weeks ago when the Broncos were picked by 14 members as 3-point home underdogs versus the previously unbeaten Patriots.

Among those on the Seahawks are the top five in the Team OddsShark Standings, including leader David Fucillo, Nick Kostos, Joe Ostrowski, Jason McIntyre and Matt Ufford. Kostos and Ostrowski are currently tied for second in the group with 40 points out of a possible 65 (62 percent), and they are hoping to stay in the Top 50 overall, which is the cut-off for payouts in the SuperContest.

McIntyre and Ufford are three points behind them in a tie for fourth in the group. Fucillo tops the group with 43 points for 66 percent and is tied for seventh overall, just 3.5 behind leader Rounding Again.
